this is the way of all cars now. for instance, my '07 vw has issues with cold weather where, get this, because of the electronics in the door latch/lock i will open the door and then it won't latch shut for a tmp period. so this means that there were some mornings this winter where i held the door shut manually as i was driving for like a half nor and then all of a sudden it engages and it stays shut. hahaha.

^ actually microsoft has been in cars for a decade now, windows embedded runs behind Audis shiny MMI, Fords Sync and many others..
Fiat even puts the stickers in:

But as always, everyone pretends that Apple has invented in-car entertainment.
- microsoft had a tablet earlier too: origami or something :)Weyland

Wait. So is your phone in your car now? Or is your car in your phone?

- at least they fixed a lot of this nonsense in the years sincemonospaced
- Really, they have fixed it? I have not used Apple maps since.utopian
- Yeah, they were forced to. That kind of fuckup was common only in the beginning, and Apple was forced to fix it.monospaced

I am not buying a car that's stuck with Apple maps, good thing google launched their own platform a while back.
- I think it just accepts it, and once plugged-in, it takes over the interface. It's not "stuck," in other words.monospaced

"Instead of baking iOS directly into the dashboard, car makers will supply a Lightning connector for plugging in an iPhone."- so, it's a peripheral?monNom
- i'm not 100% sure how it works without the iPhone.monospaced
- but no, it's not a peripheral, it's the built-in car systemmonospaced

Why does the car have to be locked into Apple? Could there not be a usb or bluetooth pairing which is compatible with both iOS and Android?
- <<<<< and thismonNom
- but you should direct your bitching and whining at the car manufacturers, this isn't Apple's monopoly.monospaced

The cars aren't locked into Apple. Don't you guys read the articles?
- They accept Apple's interface, but also their own, plus several others, including Android.monospaced

"Not only does Mercedes-Benz have plans for Android-based in-car systems, but it will also continue to offer its Drive Kit Plus, Digital DriveStyle App, COMAND Online, and Mercedes-Benz apps that let users access a variety of smartphone apps from Facebook to Google Maps through the in-car display."
"Volvo noted earlier that it has a system to allow its own content and Apple’s CarPlay content to coexist on the same display, but it’s unclear exactly how CarPlay will integrate with Android-based systems and existing in-car systems. From the images above (and below) from Mercedes, we see that it will offer many of its own Mercedes-Benz apps like COMAND through the CarPlay UI."

Anyone else using Apple maps more than Google? I find it runs a lot faster and gives better directions, despite nerds on the internet saying otherwise.
- hate to tell you but...nerds on qbn ARE nerds on the internethotroddy
- i use google maps on my ios...apple maps sucksCGN
- I tend to use Apple Maps more to, unless I need public transport directions or a missing POI.Nathan_Adams
- If I have the actual address (not just business name), I actually find Apple's more accurate. But that probably varies city to city.Nathan_Adams
