I honestly don't know what is going there, if you follow the forums, it's either
the poor people are following maduro and trying to ruin the country or the "rich" people are supported by the usa are trying to come back in power and screw the poor,we all know how internet forum banter can be, so I honestly want to know more about it,
here are the forums where I get my info:
http://www.reddit.com/r/vzla (google translate it)
http://cnnespanol.cnn.com/ (google translate it)r/pics or r/worldnews are the only place where I can get some english speaker trying to explain it to us, but everyone is biased,
so let's discuss what is going on there because as I said before, I have no clue what's going on there.

Shortage of basic goods- there's no flour, oil, sugar, toilet paper, and a whole bunch of other shit.
Extreme devaluation of the bolivar (Venezuelan currency)- on the black market (which is the only market that really matters), one dollar is 86 bolivares. Minimum wage for a full time job is 3200 a month, so like $50. Two years ago it was 9 bolivares to a dollar. Every day, things cost more. About 51% of the country earns minimum wage or less. I teach English and earn 23 bsf. an hour. Fuck that shit.
Insecurity- can't go out without getting mugged, been getting worse and worse. I live in Mérida, which is probably the safest city in Venezuela and it's depressing to see how much my habits have had to change. Used to be I could go out and walk home from the bar, now I have to pay a cab.
Those are the standard issues, Venezuela is very complex. Chavez raised the minimum living to a point where you won't starve or die of medical issues (healthcare is free and decent), but there's very little in the way of opportunities or advancement. Ask university students what their goal is and you'll hear the same thing over and over again, 'get my degree and get the hell out'. It's even more upsetting that there is a super-rich class, made up of families who've been rich forever or of people who got in with the government (which is SUPER corrupt) and are now millionaires (in dollars). Basically, the poverty line has been moved up, but at the detriment of any upward mobility, there is no middle class. Also, many of the programs that keep the poor happy are of the 'give a man a fish', not 'teach him how to fish' variety and are supported by crazy price ceilings and public funds that bleed money due to corruption.

I'm not sure what you are looking for. You already nicely summarized the situation in your 2nd post - it's the same old story of ruthless capitalism v. good-hearted but a bit naive socialism. All mixed will all too well known human characteristics such as greed and opportunism. We've seen this scenario many times before. So again, what new knowledge can you gain from it????

we have to thank the development of technology though, 10 years ago they could have done all these shit without a single video ever landing online, imagine what it will be in 15 years with protesters equipped with google glasses or other gizmos..- yes. lets thank that development together. everybody holding hands together and 3, 2, 1...THANKS!********

The bottom line is that Venezuela has been turned into a new Cuba. There is now food rationing and the people cannot get nutrients. At times waiting an entire day just for a bottle of milk and a loaf of bread. There is starvation because the communist loser has implemented food rationing on the people. The elections were rigged. People were thrown out of opposition polling places, at times beat up and murdered by the infiltrator Cuban military. They infiltrate opposition marches to murder people then blame it was the opposition. Fidel Castro is the one who is running Venezuela but people are getting tired of communist oppression. Enough.

george I know your canadian and it's easy to misrepresent what happening to Venezuela as socialism. Canada may be socialist but it respects private property and freedom of expression. Venezuela on the other hand.....well list is too long to for a post
