I don't get it.... don't like it? Don't buy them. Why set up a thread to rag on them?
I mean really is everyone here that amazing audio production folks that they know all the ins and outs of the best headphones? If everyone does, man you missed a market by not making them... clearly they'd be better than Beats... meaning they'd make millions. Stop sitting on your millions people!! Go out and pave the future of music headphones! LIVE!

my nephew loves his. its a brand thing - the kids aint interested in sound and globalisation

^^^ preach.
Hating on them is the new "cool" thing to do because they have become what "cool" people call mass marketed crap. Personally though I have been guilty in the past of other things, being superficial over headphones has not been on my list of bad judgements made.
People can argue all day over quality, but its a personal preference. Its like arguing about EQ and Compressor settings on audio, there is no set standard that everyone likes. And at the end of the day the average person listening to music likes the boost in the bass area, rather than the full freq spectrum so they can perfect a mix etc.
I can understand why people wouldn't like them, because some people who have them make out they are the best headphones out, which they are not. But not everyone knows or cares to know different, much like most won't know the difference between 16 and 24bit audio.

i didnt set up a thread to rag on them. i just set up a thread to post a story about the price difference between cost and price of these headphones.
you all need to relax.
- a good comparison would be the iPhone production cost versus retail price, it's similarZOOP
- One thing I noticed about iPhone production cost info is they don't mention wholesale parts prices. Just individual.sem
- Though with that in mind, wholesale on the parts would probably be like Zoop said, same thing as this.sem

Sorry autoflavor, I'm not ragging on you specifically, this thread is just one of many... it just feels like it's so easy to complain about something, but really hard to make something. I mean, I'd be excited as shit if I designed the beats headphones... nothing I've done has been worn/used by that many people... so until I get to that point, I try not to complain too much :)
- look, i get it.. but i DIDNT WRITE THE ARTICLE. Just posted it. Without even making a comment

I think it's worth calling it out...sure it's everyone's choice to buy headphones, but think about all those kids who probably can't afford decent standard of life but were marketed into buying $5 headphones for $300 because Dr Dre appeared in the ad.

Sem no offence mate but you are clearly in denial. I guess it's easier than regretting the purchase.
I have a pair of £50 Sony headphones I leave in the office and we tested them against the guy next to me's beats.
Everyone in the office thought the Sony's sounded better, except of course the owner of the beats.
- not surprisingmonospaced
- LOL why would I be in denial? cos I spent money on something I have to defend it? lol what am I 12?sem
- And thats good that your work friends preferred them, but I prob wouldn't. I'm allowed to have my own choice lolsem
- < Here's a bullshit office tale that backs up my point of view.
Classic...Fantrom - lol spot the beats ownerset
- Your a beat owner? AKG here.
Your office fairy tale is still bs.Fantrom - lol wtfset

although while I agree in part to the comparrision between iphone and beats headphones, i would argue that beats by dre are just headphones, and there wasnt millions of dollars sunk into their R&D .. and while the production cost of an iphone is still lower than the sale price by a significant amount, once you factor R&D and profit margins into that, its nothing like $300 for a $5 headphones.

you're delusional if you think this is an isolated product that has a huge markup compared to it's production cost.
that's the reality of everything you buy.

So far I'm getting the impression that because I like them I am,
1. Suffering from brand empathy
2. In Denial
3. A Consumerism ZombieYou guys are pro choice eh? so let me get this right...anything that costs more than its worth, and owned by many means I am suffering from one of the above?
Cos it thats the case, I believe the alternative would leave me without many things in life. I mean, technically, my house cost a ton more than the price it cost to make it, and almost everyone has one...but I guess i'm just a zombie buying into the "cool" trend :/
You're all right, lets ban anything new and expensive and all stick to the same brand of affordable electronics and never see any growth anywhere. Because the headphone biz was booming before Monster.
- dude, the headphone business has been huge for a very, very long time, but dre just made it stylishmonospaced
- despite the fact that they're ugly as fuck, and sound like shit (unless you like shit, which many people do)monospaced
- Buy what you like... you don't have to explain shit.
