So what do you think will trend in 2014?
We're already seeing a lot of 1 page parallax style sites
Will there be a return to illustration or will flat continue?

lots of rethinking of the "responsive" thing for smartphones and tablets, rather than just "do the responsive thing" and end up with a bouncy weird page, people will come up with simpler solutions...
What I'd like to see is a client and designer mindset that works well with knowing that different platforms will look different, there's no more curse of the "I want it to look the same everywhere" mindset...
note that many phone "responsive" layouts don't look so great on an ipad, even if they may code-wise default that way on an ipad

Seriously, responsive flat design will prevail this year.
And once again... Apple will have to play catch-up to the design and innovation leaders such as: Google, Samsung and Microsoft.
- aren't we talking web design though? Seems like your referring to product design.Al_dizzle
- are you referring to apple's website? i'm confused.doesnotexist

content will gain relevance. tired of seeing scrolling parallax sites that offer nothing beyond a trite animation.

subtle shadows making a comeback, abstract gradient backgrounds.
"Flat UI" turquoise will finally hit mainstream causing the end of that trend and maybe the rise of "Flat UI" pale red to ubiquity
Dribbble will no longer be cool with that crowd
