Society6 UK Import Taxes

I have recently ordered a few products from society6. I am in the UK and I have now been sent an email from UK Customs about import tax which is more than the products ordered.
Do I just learn from the mistake and pay the bill or can this be disputed? Society 6 are claiming no responsibility, and obviously if I had known I wouldn't have ordered them in the first place.

don't now about UK customs but in general you have to pay the customs anyway, if you keep the goods or not.
a good thing is to order 1 item per parcel and not lots of them in 1 parcel...totally ridiculous for the environment, but it makes you save on custom taxes.

Return it and show proof of returned item to Customs.

Order with mail, not courier services. Lots of things slip through the mail, but couriers add VAT and import duty if only they can because — I shit you not — they charge you for charging.
Every EU country has a threshold below which items are not taxed, it is higher for gifts, lower for purchases.
In Ireland, I think it's €21 for purchases and €41 for gifts.

I think I will just have to just pay it and learn a lesson from it.
