This aired in the UK last night and I was genuinely amazed. These guys might have short comings but all create their own 1 man art movement as they don't adeer to anything as they know no better..

"What do a UFO-obsessed Romanian refugee, a schizophrenic Italian war veteran, and an 80-year-old sex-mad Russian woman have in common? Answer: They are all outsider artists. After the huge success of recent shows in Venice, London and Paris, interest in Outsider Art has never been higher. But what exactly is it? How do we define it? And who are its gurus and leading lights? Alan Yentob explores this captivating, compelling and magical alternative art universe. Why in 2013 is Outsider Art finally being feted by the art establishment, and what took it so long? imagine... embarks on a worldwide journey to meet some visionary creators, and their equally obsessive collectors and enthusiasts."

Looking forward to watching this.
Although this is the second time the art world has embraced outsider art (some huge shows in the 90s) - they should do their research better.

You beat me to it Rybo.
This was SUCH an awesome and inspiring program last night. I was genuinely moved (almost to tears) by some of this artwork and artists.Art for arts sake, the need to create art and not created for the need or greed of fame or fortune. Innocent unique genuine art!
I'm going to re-watch the program, jot down the names and find out more about these artists. Would love to support them by buying.
The painting above behind Alan is a belter!

Really good show, Yentob had some nice Air Max.
If you haven't seen it 'Journeys Into The Outside with Jarvis Cocker' is a great series on outsider art from 1999.

I wrote my dissertation for my degree years ago about outsider art and its overlap into the established art world. A really interesting subject and I could have spent ages reading about it. A couple of interesting reads are: 'Raw Creation: Outsider Art and Beyond', and also 'Outsider Art: Spontaneous Alternatives'. Also look up the Prinzhorn collection.

So the converse, Insider Art, implies that's someone's been done over?
