dasohr - Perhaps a bit more expensive than the author's original selections.wagshaft
- Only a couple of K in price difference and IMO better looking then a RAV or Subgoldieboy
- I'm talking UK prices so might be even greater in price difference statesidegoldieboy
- prices for extras are horrible. that car with a decent engine and the extras the subie got doubles its price. not worth it.mekk

My 2011 Outback is the worst car I have ever owned.I can't remember how many times it's been in for repairs, rattles and the AC. It's cheap, gutless, it has no road feel to it. Pretty much soulless.
I have owned almost every make of car and I wonder why I ever went away from Toyota.

No Mazda fans out there? I like the look of the CX5 and seems worth it in gas. I have no experience with it.

the 2012 rav4 6 cylinder is quick as hell, might not look as nice as the new one but blows its doors off in performance

we have an AWD v6 Venza, much more roomier than a RAV4, great car.

what about the Mercedes GLK? It's not that much more expensive and has great reviews...and I love the look of it more than any other small SUV out there.

I have an impreza. it's a money pit. stay away from subaru.

^ Uhhh yeah. Whoops. 9-10 litres per 100 km. Bit of a typo there.
Either way, I'd recommend it. Great ride.

Look for the 04/05 Forester XT. Hard to find, but best car I've owned. 130k miles and will maintain until it stops. Find a turbo with manual transmission and the giant sunroof, and you won't care what people think ;) Also, this is a great resource: http://www.subaruforester.org/

hmm.... RE:
subaru forester 2013
4cyl turbo
224 HP, 0-60 in 6.8 sec
19/24 mpg....that's about the same gas mileage and 0-60 as an old V8 american car.... which is much more fun and cheaper to fix... but of course, your friends will think you're anti-environmental in a V8 american car, whereas you're all progressive and shit in a Subaru....

I'm currently in a turbo 2014 forester. Great ride. Much, much, much better than the 2011 I was in. Like leaps and bounds better.
- MPG?utopian
- Approximately 530 km to a full tank on regular fuel in heavy hwy traffic daily. It gets better if you use premium.Gucci
- But the dash shows I average between 9 and 10 litres per kilometre pretty consistently. Not sure how accurate that is though.Gucci
- Definitely not the best fuel economy, but it's an SUV, not a smart car...it's to be expected.Gucci
- 9-10 kms per liter, surely...sine

2014 Forester owner after owning an 02 for 12 years. It's excellent in the snow, is great for carting stuff around in, and is okay for family car. I had a good experience with my 02, and I liked the upgrades they made to the 14. My wife digs it too. I will say that the interface on the entertainment "system" is pretty bad. But still happy with it and no regrets.

The Forester has a bit of a lifestyle perk to it. Kind of like opposite the feeling of the people who drive a BMW. I don't care much for it's design and it's gas mileage isn't all that great. It's spacious and safe.
The RAV4 is much nicer looking. The wife and I were looking at this and the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, going back and forth. Ultimately we chose the Hyundai. The R4 was nice and came with a bunch of features, but the Santa Fe seemed bigger and rode nicer.
If it's between these two I like the RAV4 better. It just looks sleeker.

For build quality, go Subaru.
- Cause Toyota is terrible?ETM
- No, because i've been in both and the Subaru has better build qualitymonospaced

I am not a fan of my Subaru Forrester (2009) It's gutless and the interior is cheap. The hatch door started squeaking within months. Whatever the dash and interior moldings are made from scratches very easily. The paint is also cheap and scratches easy. My car is not that old but it looks like it is. I had to have the windshield replaced because it became pitted and I couldn't see through it if the sun was shining in my direction. Subaru charges $800 for a new windshield and now part of the interior molding frame that holds an air bag won't stay on. It's just a cheap piece of junk. I wish I had bought a used BMW X3.
Did I mention that people call the Forrester a lesbian car.- My friend's Outback has a much better interior quality. I wonder if it's a conscious decision on Subaru's part.monospaced
- I'm fine with my 2009 outback interior. Mind you, I'm not that cognizant of all things auto.Gnash
- lol. I've heard the lesbian reference as well.Gnash
- The dealership gave me an outback as a loaner and I was stunned at the difference!FawnDog
- It was soooooo nice in comparison.FawnDog
- That's what I thought. The Outback I saw was more on-par with a German auto finishmonospaced

I've always considered the RAV 4 to be a high school girl's car. That's what the girls drove in my high school. It's an SUV, but really it's not.

I have a 2009 Subaru outback and I've had a great experience so far. No major issues at all. I, too, was waffling between subaru and the rav. I haven't regretted it once.
every other weekend I drive it up north and it's been great on the dirt road to the cottage. I haven't been stuck in the snow since I got the outback.
