Howdy.
I'm a Wordpress beginner helping an acquaintance set up his site (not my design):
http://bit.ly/14veWq1It's slow. Really slow. 7 seconds to load.
I've used Google PageSpeed to identify some improvement areas. Is there a more Wordpress-specific solution I should look into?

I had similar problems recently. It depends of wich Theme you're using... I was using a super nice theme adaptable to every device and all, but it was the cause of the slow loading. I just throw all that in the garbage and never came back to it.
Iam not helping you i know. But i can tell you that the them may be the problem.

could be the theme or a bunch of plugins bogging it down etc.
i see a good handful of google fonts needing to load and a js that loads off of another server, maybe localize as much of the offsite stuff as possible . . .

Also maybe look at caching plugins like http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-…

cloudflare has been very good for me, especially edge caching images.

the site is simple enough, maybe it's just relying on old versions, perhaps create a fresh install of the newest WP distro in a subfolder, install only the required plugins and make sure they are the latest versions. install WP Super Cache. Install theme, import data, etc.
test that out and see if it makes a difference.

is it slow on localhost as well as on the server?

Start with your host. They might be a shit host. Get a cache plug in. There are a few good ones.
Check your code in firebug or dev tool. see whats loading in the head etc. etc.
- Check host. I had a client on Dreamhost and was shit. Moved to Mediatemple, smooth sailing.ArmandoEstrada
- Looks like godaddy might be the hostprophetone
- Had the same problem, DreamHost was painfully slowFallowDeer

Yep it will be the hosting - wordpress is rarely slow

I would install yslow. Run it, look at the suggestions and fix the issues contributing to a long load time.

I think it's your host. I'd try to download and clone the site to your computer, install a local hosting environment like MAMP, WAMP or http://www.instantwp.com/
WP can be slow under load, but should be reasonably fast when you are the only concurrent user. If there's a huge load, I've found cloudflare to be a lifesaver, but that doesn't seem to be your problem, unless we all click on the link at once.
Google's tool is interesting... it really seemed to point to your server.
http://developers.google.com/spe…QUOTE:
Reduce server response time
In our test, your server responded in 10.2 seconds. There are many factors that can slow down your server response time. Please read our recommendations to learn how you can monitor and measure where your server is spending the most time.
/QUOTEalso, their notes about blocking javascript can be interesting... you can move the javascript calls to the bottom of the page in many cases. One small trick is to combine multiple javascript files into one if they are custom to your site, and also I try to use direct links to google's jquery library so as to take advantage of browser probably already having it from some other website...
There are other tricks, but tweeking them is like polishing the wheels of a car that has an engine that's barely running...
- it's on godaddy, according to http://toolbar.netcr…vaxorcist
