Stroke weirdness in Illustrator CC

Hey All,
Wondering if any of you that are using AICC have this issue or can replicate it. Essentially whenever I increase or decrease the size of a stroke, it moves my object around the artboard as the size of the stroke increases/decreases.
2 paths aligned vertically and horizontally in the artboard:
Stoke of the vertical line increased to 5pt:
Anyone else having this issue? Know of any fixes? I'm searching around on google but haven't seen anything yet.

Does it, perhaps, have something to do with snapping to pixels? I don't know right now since I'm not in front of Illustrator, but sometimes a web setup document will force things to resize to pixels, which can be infuriating. Good luck.

Yeah, after digging around I realized everything was aligning to the pixel grid because I was working within a web doc.

ugh... that default 'align to pixel grid' is torturous... you can't switch it off permanently via the Settings... ... always gotta switch it off for each new file I start
