Reminds me of the "V" fllter that Clinton instituted on TVs years ago. You could turn it on, and your TV wouldn't play violent shows, or some bullshit.
I never heard of anyone, ever, turning it on.
- Is that V chip still in TV's?bainbridge
- v-chips aren't a physical thing, so yes, age restriction tech is still on TVsalbums

Can you really block all sites?

^ In my subdivision, some kids had hidden a couple Penthouse mags in a painters bucket behind a berm of dirt on a dead end road. It may as well have been a bucket full of gold bricks, you know?
- We knew this one barbershop had a stack in their bathroom that we could steal. Not even video and it was goodmonospaced

Isn't it kind of a weird thing to be afraid though??
Everyone says "think of the children," well guess what there would be no children without fucking.
- Can of worms.newuser
- Isn't violence more offensive? Pictures of naked women's bodies will be banned, but you'll still be able to watch snuff films online.qoob
- No kidding. In America you can show a dead body or a murder on network TV, but you can't swear or show boobs.bainbridge

Don't blame books, radio, vinyl, 8-tracks, tapes, mini-discs, cds, mp3, FLAC, television, laserdisc, betamax, vhs, dvd, blu-ray, cell phones, or the internet.
If you want to have so much control over something, control your children.
No one required you have or adopt them, they were your choice. take some personal responsibility for that choice. If you don't like the violence or commercialism on television, don't have it in your home, you choose to pay that bill. If you fear what your unattended child may find on the internet, don't pay for that service either.
These are options you, as parents, choose to allow into your home. Do not blindly absorb these available technologies into your everyday life then begin attempting to dictate the content it should display simply because you yourself are too irresponsible to filter out what you deem inappropriate for your family.
If you do not want your child sending and receiving inappropriate sms photos with their friends, don't give them an iphone when they are 13.
If parents would take the time to respect and regulate the vast bombardment of media aimed directly at their children, then instill in them the respect it requires to earn use such tools by making them work for and pay for the things they want, instead of just giving it to them, I can guarantee we would live in a more respectful world.
One where these options can exist without some uptight action group attacking another out of boredom, a sense of entitlement, or a delusional power trip.
Fuck your high horse.
- Kids don't need smart phones but might need internet for school.newuser

- BOOM! Absolutely spot on. As a child I had boundaries set by my parents ad it's not the responsibility of the state to set them for us.Wolfboy

- Ban social media and the whole world will be better. Good, happy people might not find a need for porn, but social media is bad for teens.bainbridge

Its human nature to like porn. If people didn't lust after one another there would be no babies. It goes against our instincts. But try telling that to the lefties.
- Lefties? Please. It's the conservative right that has issues.monospaced

Everytime i see something like this that uses the "think about the children" argument to destroy some more of the average citizens freedom and liberties, i cant help but think its just to help completely useless parents who are too lazy to be parents.
Is it the Governments role to parent the children of the UK? Of course it isn't.
Parents need to learn to take responsibility to actually know their children, set boundaries as they see fit and become good parents who are liked and respected by their children.
I initially thought this when there were school shootings and they brought up the "oh he played GTA and listen to marilyn manson", yeh that must be it...
Or maybe perhaps, its because they are troubled and their parents are fucking useless and have no relationship with them whatsoever. I cant help but think about what drove the shooter to do it and how mislead and alone they might feel without a decent family.
Dont get me wrong there will be rare cases of completely outlandish behavior in children from loving tight knit families, but these are extremely few and I don't suspect cover even 5% of the cases.
- totally agree, but kids are so tech savvy that they can easily by-pass shitty parental controls if they really wanted to._niko
- and as parents you can only do so much, you can be loving and caring and be the best parent in the world, but when_niko

ISPs should just offer coimprehensive Parent/Child-friendly internet connections, robustly policed and walled-gardeneded.
Leave the rest of us alone - why the fuck should the onus be on me to place myself in the searchlight and opt out of something?
Such ass-about-face thinking.
I doubt it'll go through, they rarely do.
