a shot in the air would have been enough to send the dog scurrying away tail tucked.
- <set
- RIGHT? Or just have the owner tell the dog to sit down. Jesus.monospaced
- Anyway, cops shouldn't be sending rounds in the air in the first place. THat whole situation could have been handled with a conversation.monospaced
- with a simple conversation.monospaced
- I dunno, dogs can't talk, owner had hangs cuffed behind backset
- They could have talked to the owner instead of cuffing him, is what I mean. The dog DOES understand a lot, btw.monospaced
- Like, stop, sit, etc.monospaced

Still can't bring myself to watch the video. I've read the story but can't for the life of me watch a dog get shot and killed for no reason. Poor animal was just trying to protect his owner, I know for a fact my dog would do the same if he thought that I was in danger. Some cops just sign up for the power. I guess the asshole finally got to use his side arm.
- or they really are paranoid pussies.. 'oh i thought his cellphone was a gun'bliznutty

Cops are sick this days really sick!

Firstly, you should be able to video any and all police action. Period.
Secondly, you shouldn't mouth off to police for any reason unless you are looking for them to hassle you (further).
As far as letting the guy calm his own dog, you actually don't know how well behaved the dog is or isn't. i wouldn't want to wait for this guy (who has already shown himself as being at least at odds with police) to calm his dog down while it gnaws on my leg.
If the guy was giving himself up, he shoulda made sure the dog was secure. When the dog acted up the police should have let him secure the dog (it's not like he was being arrested for any sort of violent or aggressive offense).
No one is without blame here. But the police needed to act more like servants of the community than gestapo, so the larger porion of the blame falls on them.- *portionlocustsloth
- They're above the Law, they don't have to behave reasonably, they'll lie, and if necessary, kill you. Simple.
Sorry to be so blunt.mikotondria3 - Police feel they have a net that prevents them from falling into a pit of culpability, woven with perceived authoritylocustsloth
- But otherwise they are still people, and subject to the same foibles and follies. There are good and bad ones. We just hear about the bad more.locustsloth
- about the bad more.locustsloth
- They shouldnt have arrested the guy. should have just talked to him. and warn him.yurimon

Not condoning the cops actions, but from what I've read the guys vehicle was blaring music. If swat is conducting a raid and they need to hear everything that is coming through their radio, that is obstructing a police raid and an arrestable offense. He was asked and did not comply. Was it that much of a nuisance? Not really.
Having said that, I'd have let that dog take a chunk outta my arm before shooting it.
That all looked like proper procedure with zero compassion and no knowledge of dog behavior in any way shape or form. Just shear stupidity... on both sides.
Even with that video as evidence, I'd say it would be a hard court case for that guy to win.

so fucked up
- sea_sea0
fucken pigs. but this dude should have known better. why the fuck would you even want to harass cops? what you trying to prove? for a youtube video? cops have a bigger ego and there you have it. disgusting.
- severian0
I don't condone the cops actions, could have had his tazer handy. But at 3:22 the dog lunged at the cop. From that moment on, the cop has every right to use whatever force necessary. And that cop was looking to use it. He just chose to use a glock.
- he walked up to the situation with the gun drawn, cocked and pointing at the dog, LONG before it lungedmonospaced
- yup, and he lunged. That's all he needed.severian
- Sounds like you're condoning the cop's actionsmonospaced
- nope, just telling you what is in their legal limits. I said in my fist sentence how I felt you dumbass.severian
- I'm not a dumbass.monospaced

This was such a bummer.
The cops used excessive force whichever way you want to want to cut the situation. I 100% blame them for the situation. Taser, mace, stick, or just letting the owner calm it down would have been fine. An actual perceptive police officer (we are 0 for 4 with these guys) would have asked the man to roll up his windows and then called animal control. The second the dog was barking, they should have let the owner calm him down and roll up the windows, it wasn't like they needed him in custody like he was the FBI's #1 Most Wanted. That dog was that mans pet, and sadly acted like a dog, so he most likely didn't see the peril from a protective dog in that situation.
Too many of these videos exist. And all of them have the same unfortunate thoughtless result.
Also, since when do uniformed officers get to carry semi-automatic rifles? That's kinda scary. I thought that was reserved for SWAT.
- EXACTLY! THIS <<<monospaced
- I 100% blame the owner for the situation, since he was being a dickface.404NotFound

this whole situation could have been avoided if the guy wasn't harassing the cops. He was honestly looking for trouble and the poor dog had to pay the price.
- But he did put his dog in the car, calmly, and he did not resist at all. He was calm and compliedmonospaced
- he may have put it in the car, but he did not secure the dog. BIG difference (obviously)locustsloth

Wow. Shitty.
I don't know... As far as the police are concerned, the dog was a threat the moment it leapt out of the car – long before it lunged. Like others have said, shooting it seemed extreme. Maybe they weren't properly equipped? Either way, they were idiotic for handcuffing the guy in the first place, so they're to blame. I didn't see or hear the guy do or say anything, so I don't see how his filming was provoking them. They basically wanted to show everyone on the block who's running shit. No one likes a bully.
- The dog exiting the car does not equate to it being a threat.cannonball1978
- for someone that doesn't know the dog, it's a threat. Sorry. They should've handled differently, but a threat for sureMiguex
- Didn't see or hear anything? Did you watch or listen to the vid?404NotFound
- I did. Maybe not as closely as you, but whatever he did (on the surface) didn't seem to warrant their reaction.Gucci
- monospaced0
I also didn't see/hear the dog owner provoke the cops. I thought it was the guys making the film, talking in their own car across the street, that were doing all the talking and playing music. The guy on the street was just filming in silence as far as I could tell.
- locustsloth0
Upon further reading, it wasn't the filming that they arrested him for. The house they were raiding was a hostage situation. They asked him to turn down his car radio (reportedly more than once) so they could better monitor the situation. He didn't, so they were arresting him for obstruction.
There'd be a very different kind of outrage thread here (or maybe none at all) if they guy provided enough of a distraction to get a person in the house situation (criminal, cop or innocent) killed.- in THAT case, the dog deserved to die /smonospaced
- Sarcasm noted, but no one's saying that. Anywhere.locustsloth
- obviouslymonospaced
- Cops: overzealous. Owner: negligent. Dog: unfortunate collateral damage of both these thingslocustsloth
- rson0
locustsloth how does justify their actions?
- i never once, in any post, said that it does. What i am talking about are reason, factors, that lead to the event.locustsloth
- To reiterate, both the owner AND the police are culpable in the dog's death.locustsloth
- How doesn't it?404NotFound

RIP Max the dog. I hope he didn't suffer for too long. Heartbreaking seeing his legs going.

Cops are pricks, everyone knows that. But, the biggest prick in that video is the guy with the dog.
"Hey, loads of cops. They're all pricks with guns. Must film what's happening and over the other side of the road from EVERYONE else who's filming the same situation... Just that little bit closer. Close enough to cause another situation".
Fucking prick got his dog shot because he was a fucking prick who wanted to film some more pricks!- He didnt have the cop talk you get in the hood from someone older.yurimon
- He didn't have a lot of things... Common sense being one of them.goldieboy
- I know lots of cops. None are pricks.404NotFound
- Miguex0
Yes, I can agree with the statements on the video. But its easier to judge once you know what happens in the end. The reality is that in the moment, no one but the owner knows what the dog is going to do, that's just how it is. You can't expect that someone that is seeing the dog for the first time will anticipate his moves.
Plus, have you ever seen a rottweiler up close, they are beautiful dogs, but also intimidating as hell.
I'm not saying the cop did the right thing though, even if he was scared for his safety one bullet should be more than enough, he didn't have to go all gangster revenge on the poor animal.
If they are charging the cops for anything, it should be for arresting the guy for doing NOTHING WRONG.

alot of these cops are such fucking pussies its ridiculous
