Arriving at JFK airport from overseas at 5pm and catching another flight at 8:30pm from Newark. Will I have enough time to do this? What's the best way?
- whatthefunk0
That's a tough one, what day - weekend or weekday? If you land at 5pm you're not picking up your luggage until at least 5:30 - you have a drive to Newark either via GW Bridge North or Verrazano to the south. Either route is going to be riddled with traffic if you were to drive.
I'm not sure what the train would be like but you're cutting it really close without any breathing room. I've never attempted public trans with something like this. http://goo.gl/maps/UYEIJ

It's on a Wednesday and I won't be driving so will have to rely on some other form of transport. I was thinking a cab or something that can go directly there? I suspected I might be pushing my luck. Should be a nice stressful start to my first time in the US.
- Taxi might be $60+.newuser
- That actually sounds extremely cheap coming from ac country were it would cost considerably moreshapeaspect

The only way in that short a window is by car. In rush hour, that might not be possible if you have to be at the next airport before 8:30 to check in.
Have the pilot of the first flight land in Newark instead.
- hijack and reroutesine
- I'll float that idea to the pilot, otherwise, yes, hijacking, becomes a viable option.shapeaspect

Helicopter from one to the other?
- Can you do that?shapeaspect
- This is prob ur best bet.instrmntl
- You sure can... Price $875.00 per person, minimum 2 person booking.
zachmattheus - Well, screw that option thenshapeaspect
- can you do that...ha ha ha....you can do anything in 'mericasee_thru

U can make it if u take the Lirr to penn station, then the jersey transit to Newark. They're about 30 min each. However, factoring in baggage claim at JFK, then security in Newark, your chances are pretty slim. Also tack on another 10 each for walking, air train, waiting etc.

my guess is no.

If your 8:30 flight is domestic. it may be running late, as all the previous legs of that plane may have been delayed by a few minutes here and there throughout the day.- Can add up.
If you miss your flight, Newark has an awesome nightlife.

Use NYC taxi – they drive like lunatics.
Or call up Newark and 'create' a delay! *wink wink

Well crap. I guess i'll just go for what instrmntl suggested and hope for the best. Is that still quicker than a taxi would you think?
Maybe just buying a ticket from JFK to San Fran would have been a better option. Serves me right for trying to do it on the cheap.
- Def quicker than a taxi. No traffic and lights, especially at 6pm, which will be rush hour.instrmntl
- Taxis are usually slower because they're on the meter. Call a car service. Theyre quicker and cheaper.instrmntl
- Call carmel and ask how long it will take. It may be a great route. 212.666.6666instrmntl

move your flight back to the next day and spend a night in NYC! it's going to happen anyways, you should make the best of it.
- Do this. Stay with a QBNer!
I hear monospaced makes great waffles and is an excellent spooning partner.orrinward2 - excellent spooning partner.orrinward2

Driving from JFK to Newark through NYC during rush hour on a weekday is so not a good idea.
- bulletfactory0
jfk to laguardia would have easily been doable, but driving through queens, brooklyn and New Jersey in rush hour is going to take a while. It will also be expensive, probably $100.
Currently, Google Maps (I realize rush hour is nearly over) says a car will take you 45-50min.
Train to Newark says 1hr 39 min (3 different trains).
It's going to be tight, but you just might make it.

JFK is a hell hole. We missed a connection (ending our honeymoon) Sunday due to delays, security, and incompetence. Only to rent a car to drive home with that I may or may not get reimbursed for.
Best of luck. But that airport is such a train wreck, I don't see this happening.
I will only book direct flights from Philadelphia from now on.

Call Carmel to see how long it would take them. I'm sure they do it a lot.

- Plus they'll be waiting for you at baggage.instrmntl
- They're cheaper than a taxi usually.instrmntl
- Traffic to NY would be fine, but NY to EWR will be a little rough. Carmel is faster than a cab because theyinstrmntl
- aren't running on a meter.instrmntl

Use the AirTrain

you won't make it, change the flights to the same airport. its not worth it, you'll be kicking yourself when you land in JFK and you have to rush to another part of the city entirely. Seriously bad way to travel especially first time in NYC of all places. 2 1/2 hours between flights to go cross the city and through two huge airports you've never been in. you would be insane to try it.
- brandelec0
you won't make it. but i wan't to believe you can. record this attempt if you can.
- rson0
No way. Rush hour to get out of NY alone is going to be 2 hours+.
