What's the best free plain text editor for Windows?
Thanks.

All the good ones you have to shell out a small handful bucks for.

All we need to do is past formatted text in, and copy plain text out. Sounds stupid I know, but Word is completely crap at that sort of thing. It's easy on Mac's, but the powers that be here have decided to give everyone Window's PC's. Apart from me, and I'm not doing it for them...

Doesn't Word come with all PCs?
- Nope, and that's not what he wants as it keeps the source's formatting in the copy/paste.detritus
- Windows comes with 'Wordpad' which is a not much more than a basic text editor.with text formatting. totally redundant PoS.detritus
- You can make plain text in Word, and for most PCs it is installed, especially by workplaces.monospaced

Oh, deformating? I keep N++ open for that all the time for use with Illy :)
You know Windows has 'Notepad', right?

It seems to me regular Notepad will ditch all formatting, regardless ...

I'm pretty lame when it comes to Windows, as you can see.
So Notepad will strip out all formatting then? I'll try that if not I'll get her to install this Notepad++ thing you are all raving about.
Thanks.

^ notepad kills all the evil formatting, but notepad++ handles breaks and character encoding better
