he's shown a close-up of the most obvious error - suggesting it's intentional?
- it would just be a meaningless phrase on a plain blue background without it.Fax_Benson
- nope the closeup shows the one thats okayfadein11

it's printed using woodblock - impossible to negatively kern that stuff unless you start cutting up the blocks and I day say the press wouldn't let him do it.
- cutting notches in blocks for negative kerning is a standard practicemonospaced
- mono is right.uan
- it certainly was - i have a lot of wood type that has been hacked up that way.hans_glib
- but maybe the press he's using is more protective. the images on his website suggest the blocks are pretty virginhans_glib

human touch. i bet the lines aren't perfect either. that's why it is nice though to me.

the old typographers used to notch the blocks for negativ kerning.
And kerning is not a symptom of computers at all. Actually it took years for computer typography and designers to catch up with traditional typography.

I hope someday I'm good enough to kern badly

I don't get the fascination of woodblocking beyond watching the process. It's just so grueling. Luckily, I'm just young enough to have started on Macs and not all that tactile stuff people fetishize now.
- I just think it's cool that someone carves them by hand, almost no room for mistakes, no undo, and organicmonospaced
- I agree. It's always interesting to see how it used to be done.CyBrainX

Sure there's some charm in woodblocked/analog lettering, but only where it's appropriate and part of the message.
Otherwise I want fucking perfection.
Supersonic, laser cut micro-fine perfection.
The world is made of language; type is sacred, all hail.

This stuff will die out anway - innevitable.
All part of progress.

And far more interesting wood block prints done by artists than these endless faux wisdom statement pieces by well known graphic designers.

Keming is overrated. This is the age of web design!
