I have everything to do with Acrobat. I have been trying to figure out for about 20 minutes how to size an Acrobat document down from 30MB to less that 10MB so I can mail it to someone.
The techniques are all maddening complicated and do not seem to work.
Help. If you can.

Why email it? Use a file transfer website and just send your client the link?

Use Distiller to further compress the images and simplify the art. If you have the original InDesign/Illustrator file, you can export a "Smallest File Size" document and start tweaking from there.
In the end, it simply might not be possible and may turn out to be a pointless request.

But - isnt there a relatively simple way to reduce the size?

Do you really have two kids?

WeTransfer.
Or File-Save AS->Reduced Size PDF. Assuming you have Acrobat Pro.Or in Preview App, File - >Export -> Quartz Filter-> Reduce File Size.
Assuming youre on a Mac.If on Windows, Sorry, dont do Windows.....

this is proof of what I am talking about. fucking ridiculous.
- No, it's not - it's about knowing your tools and the assets you're working with.

Are you on a mac?
File > Print > Print to PDF...
That will likely reduce the file size and quality.

Mail it to me and I'll make it smaller for you . . . oh wait, you can't mail it it's too big.

yes, almost every tool. but not Acrobat. I hate acrobat. Stupid tool, overly complicated. Worse than word.
did you want to rim me?

Or, if you're on a Mac, you can open the file with Preview, then Save As... and there is an option called Quartz Filter or something like that. One of the options would "Reduce File Size."

how many pages is it?
what is the purpose for the pdf? for people to just read it on their screens? Or is it for print?

I just want someone to review it! Reduce file size worked. Went from 30 to 4. It didnt at first because I had it save for an older version of Acrobat, thinking that was a good idea, but it wasnt. Still, no settings in 'Reduce file size' except the version of Acrobat you want to save it in. So it just decides how much to size it down for you?
Thank you all for your quick and funny support. I still hate Acrobat.

Whenever I make a low-res PDF of something with lots of images, I print it as a postscript file (you can adjust the image quality and compression) and then use Distiller to rip it as Smallest File Size. It never fails.
