the new Pebble Time looks better

    • I'm not sure they're really that comparable, overallmonospaced
    • yeah, the pebble came out before, uses e-ink and has a battery life of a week..GeorgesII
    • you know what I mean, Georgesmonospaced

    • Put an apple logo on it, and mono will love itpinkfloyd
    • i may go with the Pebble Time. i'm thinking about it.Ben99

    • i quite like pebble. for me personally. i'd get pebble over apple.pango
    • I thought a Pebble watch would be useful, until I discovered how limited it is. I wasn't using any of the other features on a daily basis and it wasn't fun.Jaline
    • When did people ever look for a fun watch?pango

Apple Watch is a FLOP: Sales of the gadget have fallen by 90% since April.

Samsung Ripped Off Apple’s Original iPhone Ad For Galaxy Gear

    • not really and both shite ads.fadein11
    • not really?! direct RIP obviouslyuuuuuu
    • RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIPP...ohhhhhsnap
    • Not even close! An old watch is nothing like an old phone. Analogy falls apart.monospaced

played with one today in the berlin store today..
there was a few bits i liked, but overall, the idea of having a watch that i need to charge every fucking night, that will have a battery that will become more and more useless and wont be replaceable and it just saving me the 5 seconds to check the message/time .. just dont not push me anywhere near over the line .. especially when i considering having to wear a watch again after 10 years of no watch..

it just seems like a product no one needs

    • I agreeset
    • yep - like I said earlier.fadein11
    • not for me either, but I don't really field a ton of notifications anyway... I prefer to keep my closest friendships more analogmonospaced
    • Totally agree auto. It's a product that solves a problem nobody had. It's not that hard to take your phone out of your pocket to use it, with a more optimizedmg33

The "health" angle to this thing is retarded. "You walked 1200 steps today! Good job! You're still a fat ass!"

"Your improved your masturbation speed by 13 spm (strokes per minute)! Way to go!"

    So much health.

    • Yet those fitbit things are like crack to so many people. I agree it's a little ridiculous to count steps, but some people obsess over it!monospaced
    • The tracking is enlightening. When its a really heavy work day sitting on and you see how many less steps you've taken, it motivates you to go for a run.ETM
    • True, and you can monitor this kind of thing with a cheap device just as good as with an Apple Watch, and you've been able to for years.monospaced
    • 13 strokes per minute? what are you asleep?drgs
    • yea but movement though. Accuracy is questionable, however a metric related to getting up and out of your chair is pretty useful overall.sherm

we are living in a world of distraction and it's getting worse; better? imagine if every kid was wearing one of these things what high school would be like for teachers. how would you contain the madness? kids'll be all beepin and bloopin and bizzitbappin all over the place.

  • CygnusZero40

Finally got one. I like it a lot except for the notifications barely work. When someone texts me I rarely get notified of it on the watch. No haptic feedback, no noti on the watch at all unless I go into it manually.

My girl texted me something important 20 minutes ago. Watch didnt bother to let me know. Cool.

    • Debating whether I should keep it or not. I like how it looks, the interface and everything but its very buggy...CygnusZero4
    • With these noti's not working, with the watch not always turning on when I look at it. Annoying as fuck.CygnusZero4
    • well if its a tool that doesnt solve problems lose it. if its fashion and used to pull ass or set social hierarchy keep itdeathboy
    • text alerts don't even work? lol what a piece of shitpinkfloyd
    • they do sometimes, but definitely not all the time. not reliable at all.CygnusZero4
    • If it doesn't work how you want, get rid of it. You can't even pretend to be Dick Tracy with it - fuck *that* noise.face_melter
    • Have you brought any of this up with Apple? Sounds like you have a faulty model or something.monospaced
    • no i just got it last nightCygnusZero4
    • I just ask because people I know with them don't seem to have any issues like that when their phone and service are working normally.monospaced
    • I always thought you hated Apple and yet it seems you buy into all their shit for the sole purpose of complaining on QBN about it. Odd one ;)monospaced
    • i dont hate them, i just think theyre crap compared to what they used to be. i still buy all their shit bc i can, and im used to having it all synchedCygnusZero4
    • the core concept of apple, simplicity, and reliability, died with steve. things are overly complex now and buggyCygnusZero4
    • it took me WAY too long to figure out how to get photos from my iphone to my imac. this absurd process using iphotoCygnusZero4
    • it should be really fucking simple for idiots, but it is. and im a techy guy and its not self explanatory. at all. its totally ambiguous actually.CygnusZero4

who gives a crap. buy one. or not. debating charts of watch sales... stupid.

    • it's apple. even if they made toasters people would scrutinise and analyse the shit out of them.inteliboy
    • It's a pretty relevant question. Look at how many own the stock. The watch is supposed to be the "next thing", fairly important to a lot of people.formed
    • its a big indicator of Apple's future - of course its important.fadein11
    • To people maybe who don't know about apple. But Apple has been clear they aren't banking their future on it. To think they are is to misunderstand.monospaced
    • Blame analysts and made up sales figures. Those are shit guesses at best and you know it.monospaced

It looks like Apple Watch sales are tanking!

    http://www.businessinsider.com/a…

    • You only have to walk into an Apple store to see this - only counter with few people round it.fadein11
    • Even the lowest sales rate estimate in these articles puts the Apple Watch at 5X more than all competitors combined rate. Not sure how that's a fail.monospaced
    • massive decline in sales must be a win then :)fadein11
    • We have to see how it plays out.monospaced
    • I'm gonna buy one just so I can sell it in 20 years for a cool mill. Watches? Like time that's not embedded on your wrist?fyoucher1

    • Company has markup?? Shocker!!ETM
    • I am sure it made Mono smile. I know I would if I owned more stock than I do.formed
    • Not really that much. Apple already commented that these estimates are hilariously inaccurate and that the Watch actually has a lower than normal margin.monospaced
    • What makes me smile is how the iPhone business is taking over Asia.monospaced
    • Small things like the profit margin estimates on something like this don't really affect the market directly, in my experience.monospaced
    • Besides software and other costs, overhead, R&D, advances in the manufacturing, is one of the most expensive costs.omg
  • inteliboy3

The Watch is just another gadget. We're almost at this plateau, the internet is maturing, apps are apps, touch screens are touch screens. We're all so used to it now. It's normal and kinda boring.

I'd say the next leap in tech is not going to be phones or wearables or computers or gadgets... but transportation, health and energy... Tech is bursting out of our small touchscreen bubbles and is going to change how we logistically live day by day.

I'd like Apple to be part of this. Side by side with Tesla and Google as they fight it out in changing the world. Though the fact that Apple are focussing on "fashion" says a lot. It's a stupid fashion accessory. Nothing more. It could be fun, and gadgets are fun, good design and tech is cool. There's nothing wrong with that. But it's not the next revolution that stakeholders desperately scream for.

    • +1 - well put. It's not going to change our day to day lives like previous devices did.
I agree regarding transportation - and my God doesn't it need it.
      fadein11
    • Still waiting for them to shake up TV... and no AppleTV didn't... at all.fadein11
    • agreed, gadgetry in general is nearly played out. time to move on to bigger, but subtler, and better things. Apple is teaming up with world changing things too.monospaced

One-day batter life? Is this true?

    • Its on all the time. Its a watch, not a phone. A full day is pretty damn good.CygnusZero4
    • True. My current analog watch lasts like 350000% longer, but I guess it's not quite as feature-rich.nb

I'll get a iwatch only when it's waterproof, longer battery life, and can replace my phone. It also has to pass rigorous fashion standards.

Apple Watch shell game weighs on Apple stock
Numbers Apple does share hint at disappointing debut.
    http://www.marketwatch.com/story…

    • The debut was as good as the iPhone and iPad launches and the watch sold 3x more than all others combined in the last 2. That's not bad at all.monospaced
    • if it's not that bad own up to it and release the numbers... and issue a statement that you expect growth in the wearables market. don't play coy with wall st.jonny_quest_lives
    • @Mono: there's no proof of that. They hide the numbers inside of the "other" category and then make vague claims in the media after the call. That's their game.zarkonite
    • You're right, there's no proof. Yet, Apple doesn't lie to investors about the revenue in that category. Why single out Apple for not giving out numbers?monospaced
    • There's also no proof that the Watch sales are poor either, with all indications pointing to them selling near 3 million of them.monospaced
    • Anyway, it's a product category I am not really into, but I do pay attention to analysts and pundits who write stuff like this.monospaced
    • easy on the analysts kool aidpinkfloyd
    • exactly... those analysts only seem to be right about 5% of the time, which is on par or worse than flat out blind guessingmonospaced

Apple not releasing actual figures and grouping with other products... hmmm I smell a rat.
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/techno…

    • Good luck finding exact sales figures from any of their competitors either.monospaced
    • they released figures for all other productsfadein11
    • not all of them, and they often don't release figures for the new products, just like the competition (and for that reason)monospaced
    • the product will continue but will be lacklustre... it doesn't supply a need and is a step backwards, phones do everything and dedicated fitness devices do thefadein11
    • rest... still waiting for a killer product post jobs :)fadein11
    • it does supply a need to some people (see previous post); also, Apple got lucky with a killer product or two, but it wasn't that often under Jobsmonospaced
    • iPod, iPhone, iPad, iMac, Macbook Pro...hmmmfadein11
    • if the Macbook Pro and the iMac were "killer," then so would the new Mac Pro and the Retina lines, no?monospaced
    • the 1st iMac Was killer... macbook pro brought back the cool creative professional to the fold... the new products are just rehashes like everything post jobsfadein11
    • Sorry my definition of same product with better components is not KILLER mofo... Have a good eve. Laterz (trying to be like Georges).fadein11
    • I would argue that the iPad was just a bigger iPhone, and not really "killer." The Macbook Pro I struggle though, it's just a laptop.monospaced
    • okay - how many creative professionals have you see on a non-macbook in the past decade... jeez. whatever - go and play with Georges - you bore me as well.fadein11
    • I'm not saying it's not the preferred machine for creatives, not at all. Just that an upgraded laptop isn't really that innovative. No need to get rude :/monospaced
    • Macs have always been the go-to brand of computers for creatives, long before Steve, and long after.monospaced
    • they had a huge dip - I used macs early on in career and in past decade but there was a time in the middle when they were a bit shit. may be before your time.fadein11
    • Please don't tell me the history of macs in the creative world, I'm older than you.fadein11
    • anyway like I say bore off.fadein11
