it's got more power, more features. integration has been thought out more. that's all you can really ask for, and they delivered. developers now have more at their disposal to work with while crafting experiences for us...
it's up to them now
- I can ask for more. How about a new controller? A dumb touchpad is useless.CygnusZero4
- it's not useless on the vita. again, that's up for developers to work into their games. sony just opened that ability to us on the console finally.scarabin
- console finally.scarabin
- I have a Vita. It's lame. It simply works as an L/R2 in most games. This one is on the front!CygnusZero4
- What was the real need for that? Is it going to change the way I play games? Nope.CygnusZero4
- Ive made up my mind, Im just sticking with the Wii U. At least Nintendo tried to do something new.CygnusZero4
- And I really do love the Wii U gamepad. It genuinely feels different.CygnusZero4

Anyone know what a comparative PC system would be, especially in the GPU department? I'm not looking to fan a flame war, just curious to know how much oomph it's got - it's kind of hard to tell from a CGI setpiece and a slow-running urban thing.
- A comparative PC for around the same cost would be the valid measurement, but we don't know the cost yet.nikdaum
- dunno, i imagine they'll get a GPU bulk discount, be planning x months ahead and PCs have a lot of extra stuff a console doesn't - plus Sony will be subsidising it.detritus
- a console doesn't - plus Sony will be subsidising it.detritus

Yeah some people are receiving lemons, I hope mine doesn't give me shit.

I said it above ^:
"I don't think we'll see a new system here."
And we didn't...

we got a taste. and eventually we'll get the meal. until then, we'll discuss what we know until we're all nerded out. i
know one thing, even tho i don't know what the thing looks like (yet) i can see what some of these first-gens look like and my wallet is going to suffer dearly, oh lordy...
- Spot on prophetone; seeing the tech demo of the old mans face was such a relief...ideaist
- ...Seeing emotion in gaming!ideaist
- exactly, so much potential and i bought into the next level, cinematic emotion that will be unleashedprophetone
- to me, that's going to be exciting. the next-level subtleties...prophetone

with the power of the gaikai server farm behind it, including the promising level of integration shown tonight, you can't really compare the potential output of the PS4 to a single PC, but would have to compare it to an incredibly powerful server farm.
the impressive (and proprietary) hardware specs of the box itself is just icing on the cake
he tried to stress that the importance of hardware in the box would be obsolete with the PS4...

- why did you buy both?e-pill
- We do a lot of testing/dev work here & need to compare. Plus we had surplus budget that needed to be spent.kona
- Here, if you don't spend it the company thinks you don't need it. Thus, the next year your budget is less.kona
- i know about end of year budgets, same thing here. i thought you bought it for you.e-pill
- not for work..e-pill

Controller looks great. Games look insane. Though yeah, just a taste - building more hype until E3 I guess.

as far as backwards compatibility is concerned, it seems like a bummer, but all those PS1,2,3 will be available for streaming at some point. hopefully under some kind of subscription service instead of per game...
- Does it not play old discs?monospaced
- correct, like the ps3 nowscarabin
- well that's just shitty, my Wii plays old GameCube mini discs just finemonospaced
- stick to wii thenscarabin
- honestly, i don't even use game disks anymore unless i have to and then it just feels weird and archaicscarabin

Sony seem to be one of the very few consumer electronics companies that actually give a shit about trying product design that is uniquely theirs.

What a gigantic letdown.
Hardware-wise the console seems pretty good, the rumours said they were going to use 4GB of fast GDDR5 ram while the new Xbox would use 8GB of slower DDR3 ram. Sony announced it will have 8GB GDDR5 unified memory, that's a good thing.
But the whole thing was a disaster, announce a new console without showing the console? Square Enix showed a video that was already on the net weeks ago. Bungie/Activision couldn't show anything about Destiny just say they were working on the thing. The only game that I liked was Killzone and the Capcom tech demo. Ubisoft ran a new trailer of a game that was originally going to come out for PS3/360/PC and that didn't look so next-gen.
Overall, I think Sony is afraid of the next Xbox, and I guess MS has quite a few studios tied to announce their games on their event because otherwise I can't explain why this event was so bad.
- Sony, Microsoft & Nintendo are also afraid of Apple/iOS gaming and it's future potential, I believe...ideaist
- +1
jonny_quest_lives - ...which is really quite new compared to NES, PS1, XBOX, etc...ideaist
- @ideaist that's true, but Apple hasn't made their big move on the living room yeternexbcn
- ...Touché.
It certainly is exciting to watch it all unfold, though...ideaist - lest we forget apple has already conquered the living room w/ bandai and the PIPPIN!prophetone
