Can you install games on a 3ds from the cartridge?

  • CygnusZero40

    No.

@Prophetone, you said in the PS4 thread about 3DS Dominating handheld.. please please explain. I have no idea how people come up with that assumption..

  • mantrakid0

I have both Vita and 3DS and 3DS feels like a cheap toy. There are maybe 5 games tops im interested in playing on the whole system, and the online store is absolutely garbage. Meanwhile PSVita is miles ahead graphically, ergonomically, functionally (way easier to use as media player, web browser, email, etc if you wanna go that route), not to mention it connects to the PSN store giving you access to tonnes of awesome Vita games, but almost the whole library of digitally released PSX games too.. I'll almost never have time to play all the shit I want to play on the vita, meanwhile I am considering selling my 3DS the minute I finish paper mario because i have no idea what else to play on it.

  • mantrakid0

ALL THE TIME i see people / press rag on the Vita and then in the same breath praise the 3DS, it honestly makes ZERO sense to me at all, i just wish i knew what the key arguments are but they are never mentioned..

  • inteliboy0

I played Zelda on it and haven't touched it since. Probably not until, well, another Zelda comes out. I don't see much point on handhelds anymore.... quick gaming = phone/tablet, epic gaming = console/pc... not that I have much time for either these days.

Though then again, I'm not 12 years old anymore. So who knows. I see kids everywhere with 3DS's.

  • prophetone0

well i find it a little curious that you assume i am assuming...

because i hear nothing but negativity regarding the vita and its lacklustre lineup, thus far, online and in person with actual people. maybe that will change when PS4 arrives and cross-product synergy is generated...

i think the vita is a beautiful thing, built great and has potential. and sure, people love downloadable (classic) games - me included - but the kids want fresh meat and there hasn't been much of it so far imo. not enough to drag $250 from my wallet anyway, and apparently the same goes for many.

and because i read things about the 3DS that always seem positive, save for the XL's bogus screen res, specifically articles such as this from feb 13:

    http://gamingbolt.com/media-crea…

"...The intriguing part is that sales have actually risen for both the 3DS XL and 3DS. Whereas the previous week saw the former with 51,654 units sold and the latter with 26,028 units sold, this week’s sales indicate sales of 89,050 units and 38,645 units respectively. That’s pretty almost a 50% increase for the 3DS LL and almost 25% more for the 3DS. By contrast, the PS3 saw a decrease in sales with 17,004 units sold compared to 18,106 sold last week. The Wii U also sold slightly less with 12,185 units this week."

and here's one regarding vita sales less than a day old:

    http://www.vgchartz.com/article/…

"...Sony confirmed earlier this week that they are cutting the price of the PlayStation Vita in Japan. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan president Hiroshi Kawano admitted to Famitsu (translated by Polygon) that sales for the PlayStation Vita have not met expectations and the company has had to lower its forecast three separate times. -- "The biggest reason [for the price drop] is that we simply want to have more people playing the PS Vita," said Hiroshi Kawano. "Based on our research, there are two broad reasons why people who may want to try the Vita aren't purchasing it. One, they want to wait until there's a game they want to play on it. Two, the price is a little out of reach for them."

the target market for the vita is more refined and demands more from it and it hasn't fired off all the cannons just yet. the 3DS has it a little easier i suppose because it appeals to the younger kids and young at heart.

so consider the arguments mentioned i guess.

  • mantrakid0

word, thanks so much for breaking that down man, it helps me see the sides for sure.

I was MEGA turned off by the 3DS XL i couldnt stand it was so hard to look at after being used to Vita's screen and even iphone / ipad resolution.

there are definitely some fun games for 3DS: Zelda, Paper Mario, Adventure Time, but other than that, i dont see the appeal, really.

Looking through the articles you posted and their offshoots, I can see the rag on the Vita being things like the memory cards, useless touch screen, etc. but it honestly baffles me how peeps can say there are no games for it. thought, maybe it's just a taste thing.. or a level of demand based on the target market. Every week when they announce new games being released, people just complain that it's not "Game X". Just seems to be a shame, because the pieces are all there for success, it's just not being handled correctly from a marketing standpoint and I don't understand why that would be, other than maybe just that resources being poured into other areas of the company.

    • i'm that guy that is being disappointed by the vita. i only see like 3 games i would want to buy with it right now...prophetone
    • so do i drop $300 on something to play a couple of games and then wait until whenever for more? no.prophetone
    • i will wait tho and by the time i'm dropping $ it will be cheaper and have maybe 10 games i like.prophetone
    • and it will play a role in my gaming with my new PS4.prophetone
    • i think there are many like me who are waiting to see more. today was a good start. i like the strategy sony is cooking up.prophetone
  • prophetone0

just my opinion, but i think psvita can indeed win the war when the new releases start to flow more often, when they shave at least $50 off the price and perhaps most importantly, and it's all guessing at this point, it becomes a vital, must-have component of the PS4 universe; in 2014. sounds like it's headed in that direction so that's the good news. the bad news? it's off to a slow start as it is now and may not get there until 2015-ish.

i'll tell you this. i don't care what the PS4 price tag is or if i even 'need' one because i most certainly do not, i will drop coin for it at launch, just because, along with the rest of the kids. shit's gonna sell like hot cakes served on greased lightning.

  • mantrakid0

    What kinda games you into?

  • mantrakid0

And do you have PS3? (im 'mantrakid' on there if you wanna add me. :)

  • prophetone0

yup, i have a PS3 and a Wii (for my kid) and am from a long line of gaming console time-wasting since my atari 2600 was given to me for my birthday in '82. and still have a pile of consoles from over the years that i drag out every so often.

honestly i'm not a social gamer and haven't run in those circles to really get into it. sad? probably. i'm not going to be uploading gameplay vids to facebook, but i can see how that will be super popular when it arrives next year.

i'm always looking for the classic formula in the games i like to play, quick and dirty and just fun. like i would hate Skyrim because it takes like 80 hours to get somewhere. but street fighter, dirt, skate, ace combat, black ops, ssx etc are fun. farcry 3 looks dope and the new tomb raider looks good too.

  • mantrakid0

sweet, sounds like we have similar lineage and tastes. the latest Need for Speed / Burnout is pretty fun. I like the shit that's quick and dirty too. Fat Princess, Castle Crashers, Sound Shapes. My friends bust my balls cuz i download all the 'weird' shit off the store.

  • prophetone0

well if you want weird. i have amassed a decent collection of neo geo mvs carts and got my hands on a 6-slot mvs pulled from a cab and am in the process of consolizing it as we speak. it will be a beast and it will be glorious.

and no one i know has any idea what i'm talking about when i talk aout such hings.

  • prophetone0

i will post pics on here i'm sure when it's done and pretty.

  • mantrakid0

    badass. Metal Sluggin'
