yeah, saw that, they are going to kill themselves trying to rake in more money

Are any of these things suddenly appearing now because they need to raise money following the IPO?
it seems like some hasty and rash decisions are being made and floated and it feels a bit desperate somehow...

the blocks of ads in my mobile phone news timeline are already deterring me from opening the app in the first place

When you have stockholders to answer to, your first concern is money. Your customers move down the list.

The big globalisation of Facebook seemed to occur when a mass exodus left Myspace. Myspace was where everyone went (in the UK) after FriendsReunited proved itself to be woeful and lame.
This time, if everybody gets tired of Facebook, it doesn't feel like there's a place for the disapora to head. Maybe it all splinters into smaller interest places such as this, with there no longer being an iconic, ubiquitous social network.
I thin the lack of a new place to explore means Facebook will probably die a lot slower than the others died. Mysapce and FRU both died almost overnight.
- Google+ (no...really).
1.5m users. Fastest growing social network atmpig - Sorry...500,000,000 users. 100m active. (apparently)pig

Horp - It's digital high school and unfortunately many never move beyond it...ideaist
- Nope. Social Networks are here to stay, they're just starting I'm afraid.mikotondria3

Facebook's customers are ad companies, not its users. If you get something for free, you are the product. They sell your eyes to advertisers and your habits to marketers. The same is true of television and magazines and newspapers (subscription fees only cover delivery and hardware expenses).

The article says news feeds. Big difference from your writing of "timeline" in the OP . Still garbage, but that is an important distinction. Especially if you have a business page.

Adblock.

The beginning of the end is near for Facebook.

Just need something to scrape the relevant feeds and mash your facebook data into something more palettable. Like how that AOL 'Alto' email client rejigs your Gmail...I love it, anyone else use it ?
- I checked it out for a second. Looked pretty. Not interesting enough to get me to switch right now though.sublocked

The pay to play model for business page posts is a kick in the groin too. Now far fewer people see business posts and the transition to having these users create an interest group is slow. Hard pressed to find small businesses that will pay.
