  Take image duplicate, make black and white, apply mask, put black and white image into mask, refine black and white image to suit. done.

  yes.... but the edges... is it only a donut? or is it something else, like a fuzzy fruit or a person with hair, where the white background in the hair will require highlight tweeking marathon in photoshop....
