I can easily place multiple images from bridge to ID by dragging them. Or I don't understand what you're after, it's a little confusing...

i never understood what the point of bridge is - seems like more adobe bloatware to me.

yes I like it too, lots of ways of marking images quickly.
Well I can't just drag in now, I have to drag then place the curser and click.

Start drawing an image box, and before you unclick and commit, use the arrow keys to turn it into a grid (about the amount of images you want to import), and let go. Select all the images you want, and click OK. Arrange away.
Or, just use the Place command, select a bunch of images, and click randomly. It's not as "elegant" as dragging from the Finder (I actually can't believe you do that, btw), but either method is quicker than this Bridge junk.
