Adobe HTML5 software

I really havent looked into these much. I'm still doing a lot of Flash work at the place I'm at, but they are starting to bring up HTML5, even though we are stuck using IE7 which is issued by the firm, nothing I can do about that. But of course at some point they will upgrade and we'll be able to start doing some more mobile friendly HTML5 stuff.
My question is I can see Adobe has a bunch of new HTML5-based software out, but does any of this really have the same funcationality as Flash where you can create really robust interaction pieces using movieclips and all of that? If not, is it known if they are working on anything?
Im not much of a programmer, so if we ditch Flash at some point and someone wants some crazy Flash like interactive piece, having some software I can build that with would of course be real nice.

Your company forces you to use IE7? That's crazy..
- ukit20
From what I've seen the new Adobe tools are more marketing hype than anything else. Not something most people would use on a project.
Your best bet is probably learning a little JavaScript. Start with jQuery, it's not really that difficult if you have worked with Actionscript in Flash.

What about this? Sounds like it lets you use Flash itself but publish out to JS which would allow you to use Flash to built interactive projects that would work on apple devices.
- ukit20
Could work if you are just doing visual animations but seems like it would still be tough to avoid writing JS altogether.

I tried to use the adobe tools, but as ukit2 said above still more marketing than anything, I found it's a lot easier to use a good text editor, like coda and most of the time jquery or some js library.
Anyway, I still doing so much more Flash/AIR than html5.

Yeah well we are starting to get people complaining about Apple devices, so at some point the firm is probably going to abandon Flash and not let us use it.
That's a ways off so I have plenty of time, but I'm not very ambitious anymore, not like I used to be and not real excited about learning a whole program language.
I really want something that allows me to use JS and do things like create interactive piece where buttons do various things within the animation and whatnot. Sounds like with CreateJS you need to actually know JS, and with Edge Animate that sounds like its more just for some linear animations, which is good for animated banners but not a whole lot else.
- Way off? Sounds like your agency is out of touch....ArmandoEstrada
- Should I call the CEO running a company with offices in 80 countries about this matter?CygnusZero4
- I have to do what I can with what I have. I cant convince them to upgrade, it's a huge deal for them.CygnusZero4
- Nothing personal, I feel you pain. But it seems the agency is out of touch if they plan to dump flash no time soon.ArmandoEstrada
- I guess if they keep making $ with Flash then respect.ArmandoEstrada

You might want to check out Sencha Animator if you're stuck doing animations & flash like things.
Flash is dead baby.
- CygnusZero40
Sencha doesnt work for me. I downloaded a trial and their bouncing ball template file, and when I preview in every browser I have I just see a yellow square at the top left. It's not round like a ball, and it doesnt bounce.
- Looks like its only working in chrome for me.CygnusZero4

truth be told, if you want to do that level of animation you'll have to stick with Flash for a while, js/html5 is not even close to be ready and/or crossbrowsers. but this is the same old story...

do you have an example of the type of work you're doing in flash now and want to do in html5?
- ETM0
Can you provide a link to one of your companies pages containing Flash? An example of what you might need to duplicate. That would be the easiest way to say if it's possible.

IE7? Silverlight and alcoholic beverages to help live with yourself in the morning.

"Your company forces you to use IE7? That's crazy.."
Quite common in businesses, company pays some MCSE trained imbecile to build their intranet software... then it only works properly in IE so the IT dept enforces an IE # only policy so that their incompetence for choosing MS technologies isn't highlighted.
- ukit20
Is it really possible to build something that works in IE7 but not IE8+?
- CygnusZero40
I cannot post any projects. They own all of this work and if this somehow ever got back to them I would be out of here.
An example of something we use Flash for is creating interactive modules just to deliver information, links, copy, photos, etc. in a small amount of space.
The basic movieclip aspect of Flash and using minor scripting to control clips, jump in an out of them, that sort of thing is what they are probably going to want to be able to do with HTML5/JS at some point in the future. It could be a year from now, who knows, but I want to be ready. Of course they wont hire developers and prefer to outsource that and use me to design everything with some light development work, but it would be nice if at some point there was a program like Flash that allowed you to do at least some of the basic functionality of Flash without me having to spend a long time learning JS.

1. Learn the basics of HTML, CSS and Javascript. Personally, I think HTML has become much more cross browser friendly. Back in 1999 I used to do tables and such, and I can tell you now that was a REAL hassle!
2. Check the basics of jquery (a javascript library), really handy when it comes to selectors and such.
3. Check out Greenscock's javascript tweening class: https://www.greensock.com/v12/ I can not do without it, also in Flash.
3. When you really want it like Flash, learn canvas. Really not that hard when coming from an actionscript environment, especially with Grant Skinner's framework: http://www.createjs.com/ Nesting in a 'movieclip' what you're talking about is possible within this framework.
4. Check the new export options in Flash CS6 (spritesheets, SVG graphics. Check this Google animation for example: built completely in Flash and exported to SVG: http://www.google.com//business/…
5. Stop using the word HTML5. Instead use HTML, CSS and Javascript.
