Really depends on what you like to do on your free time, but you better have a car, cos everything in LA is miles away.
Santa Monica and Long Beach are nice places to hangout.
My experience in LA:
1st time - hated it
2nd time - loved it
3rd time - wanted to live there

Santa Monica Pier walking down through venice is a must for anyone wanting a day in the sun. Check Larry's for food/beer then sit on the Erwin Hotel rooftop for a night cap. Bring warm clothes, though they supply blankets. Reservations a re a must. Bottega Louie Downtown has to happen food wise in the early evening before dark. No reservations available, just show up and expect a 15-20 minute wait, you can do so at the bar. Silver lake and the Red Lion is fun for a night if you love beer. 3 Stories of food and fun. Jumbos Clownroom is a great bikini strip club that actually has killer talent. The pole dancers earn their keep, fun place. Museums are perfect, LACMA/MOCA/HAMMER are worth it. Other than that... go slow while everyone else is in a rush. Enjoy and cheers.
- Oh and Abbot Kinney is a street with shops/drinks/food. be sure to walk there after Venice.nthkl
