pheew... they just announced no tourist ban in amsterdam coffeeshops....
was getting worried there... they were about to stop tourists from visiting coffeeshops, thus ending one of the coolest things to do in that city.

when i was in high school (late 90s) there was a coffeeshop in Cape Town that was apparently owned by the Dutch embassy...
you could have a smoke in the middle of town without anyone bothering you. rather funny seeing suits having a lunchtime smoke or people having meetings there.
they didn't sell though, and i don't know how true/legal the "owned by the Dutch embassy" thing was, but no-one was ever arrested or searched there.
- i smoked there often whenever i was in town. right in the cbd.sine

They still have stricter laws on border cities, but unless you live in NL, I doubt anyone cares... no one comes to Amsterdam and says, "hey, let's go smoke in maastricht". There is such a tourist industry based off weed, I couldn't imagine they'd impose a ban in Amsterdam... then it would just lead to under ground trade.
