I recently revisited the famous Bach Cello Suites and am really enjoying them. I picked up the version performed by Jian Wang for many reasons related to recording quality and style. I do recommend it.

Chopin's ok... Dark though? It's salon music (not that there's anything wrong with that).
If you DO want dark, look into penderecki, sibelius, janacek, pettersson, mahler, gorecki..
It's hard to recommend anything without knowing your tastes, but regardless, start with bach and beethoven.

I don't particularly want Christmas ones http://www.qbn.com/topics/668152… but I am a complete classical music luddite.
I can't imagine for one second that the fire-damaged barnet of Andre Rieu is the way to get me started, as has been suggested.
Any recommendations from the supremely-sophisticated QBN massive?
Thanks...
