Building a video

I have to use AfterEffects to build a video/animation, which I've done plenty of times before, problem this time though is I'm not sure what preset comp settings to use since Im not being given any specific specs.
This is going to be played off a laptop at a conference up on a large screen, but I dont really know what size it needs to be built at.
Is there some sort of just safe standard preset composition setting to use? Maybe NTSC DV? Really not sure about the pixel ratio settings and all that, square pixels vs. whatever else.

1080p / 720p?
Find out what kind of laptop, and make it the same res.

If it's not a burden on your computer, i'd build it full HD (1920x1080) 29.97fps. That would be the easiest to down convert from and then you'd have it best quality if it ever needed to be screened on bluray or whatever. If it ever needs to be played 4:3, then you can just letterbox it.... or i guess center cut it.

- Well said. Just be sure to stick to title safe guides to be sure your content doesn't get cut off in a 4:3Hombre_Lobo

Yeah Im a bit worried about the laptop. I think its going to be playing off an HP.
What about that pixel ratio crap? Square pixels, something else?

Just stick to standard 1080p. That way you can export a smaller size or export interlaced. It's the safest bet.
Perfect pixel matching is ideal, but I personally have never worried about matching the exact laptop resolution to my project as a larger file will scale down fine, provided the laptop isn't some old piece of crap that can't handle a compressed hd video.

Ok so what about the pixel ratio settings?

Use full HD. 1920 x 1080 . Square pixel! Then you can convert to Ntsc Pal or whatever later if needed.
- Giddy up. Thanks brother. This square pixel shit always confused me.CygnusZero4
