My personal suggestions for InDesign are to master the basics of placing content in frames (separate things), and text boxes. This of course after learning how to create a grid (it's the first thing you do when you create a new document). After that, it's amazingly intuitive and oftentimes way easier to get precision layouts that either AI or PS. Things "snap" more logically, spacing is better, type handling is unparalleled (check out the dropdowns in the character/paragraph palettes: hyphenation, justification), and so on. Good luck. I think you'll like it.
