"The Islamic world contains the world’s greatest concentration of un-elected monarchs, military dictators, and usurpers, all supported by America. None would survive without American help. Where, then, is the symbol of hope in a Muslim world ruled by US-protected and coddled, corrupt despots? We in Pakistan have suffered four military coups, all supported by the US. The result is what we have now: moving from misery to poverty and a corrupt president sitting on top of a sham democracy."

Pakistan declares Friday a day of protest against anti-Islam film
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan continued to seethe Wednesday over the release in the U.S. of a movie trailer mocking Islam, as legions of protesters rallied in several large cities for a sixth day and the government signaled its own discontent by declaring Friday as a national day “of peaceful protest.”

I don't know how to start writing this letter. It's crazy, the world is.. life.. I'm so shattered right now, I don't know.. I feel very dead inside.Last summer I auditioned for an indie low budget feature movie and I landed a supporting role. The movie was about a comet falling into a desert and ancient tribes fighting over it for they thought that the comet had some magical powers.
A year later, the movie was dubbed (without the actors' permission), the lines were changed drastically and the movie was morphed into an Anti-Islam film. Even the names of the characters were changed. And the character I had scenes with GEORGE became MUHAMMAD.
I really need your advice right now? How can I have my voice shown to the world so that I can tell them the real story.
All these media people that keep calling me are using my real story and then chopping or manipulating the interview the way they want to.
I don't know what to do. It's very scary, Neil.

“The world should know our anger will not be a passing outburst but that this is the start of a serious movement that will continue all over the Muslim world to defend the Prophet of God,” he told the crowd, who roared their approval as he spoke. Nasrallah also warned the U.S. that if the full anti-Islam movie is released, rather than the short clip that has been posted on YouTube, there will be “dangerous consequences.”
- Hmmm...who said this had nothing to do with a movie again?

i agree that politics has a huge part to play in it. I used to meet people on my travels around the world 10-15 years ago and they would ask about northern Ireland. Some people assumed that religion (i.e. catholic v.s. protestant) was the basis of the conflict.
The reality was that for the "catholics" the problem was the way the British State ruled their country politically. Religion was merely a way of classifying the broad groups involved in the conflict.
also, re. the middle east. It is not just the US that has been destabilising the region. UK, France, China etc etc are all involved.

Strange how in every Western country the young people rebel against religion and authority

Just my rambling 2 cents, I don't deny that the US has had a hand in some very nefarious actions to control resources resulting in a simmering anger which can be easily sparked. In this particular case though it does appear that this video is that spark. I'm basing that on what leaders in Lebanon, Egypt, and Afganistan have been stating.
Not using this as an excuse but many of these people have grow up under dictatorships. Every single aspect of their media is government controlled. For the majority of their populations, especially the extremists, that is all they know. When they hear about a video being released insulting their prophet, naturally they assume it's an accepted option of the American government. Many can't fathom the idea that an individual can randomly state their opinion and release it to the world. I don't mean this as an insult. Many just don't have the education or wealth to travel and study in more modern countries where freedom of expression is so common place. I don't get the Australia protests though. Maybe they just have their own islamic version of fox news riling them up.
GeorgesII, I don't consider you un-American for stating that our military has basically become our diplomatic frontline. I'm sure you may have heard about the Project for the New American Century. It pretty clearly states how several prominent members of the government would like to see the future course of the US.

It would be pretty ignorant to assume that the course of events in the middle east hasn't had something to do with this organization. Especially given the list of signatories.
