My work computer is a Lenovo T410 with 16 gigs of RAM. It's quite ugly but is a workhorse.

FWIW my Dell i5 works fine for me with LR4, a million browser ADHD windows and photoshop all at the same time.....it's and much cheaper(!)
I got a Dell i5 laptop on craigslist cheap due to a scratched case lid... replaced a part for lunch money, and added RAM... it has 2 7200 RPM hard drives in it, (took out CD-ROM drive).... a nice thing about Dell's is that parts are easy to find..... I may replace one of the hard drives with an SSD....
I run an external monitor whenever I'm at a desk, so I can use lightroom's contact sheet on one screen and a hi-res image on the other, it works nicely. I may consider a $200 Lenovo portable USB external monitor, as I love to have 2 monitors when doing lightroom, as I am a photographer who often has hundreds of corporate convention photos to go through... (my process is to use fastStone image viewer first to cull bad shots, then lightroom to process and edit)
good luck! the i7 may be a big help with REVit, but otherwise I think more RAM and and/or SSD and/or 2x 7200 RPM hard drives + an i5 may be fast enough for you... and lunch money in comparison...
