I'll probably DIY myself a shelving system for my house eventually. I'll probably look into cabinet-grade plywood and source the floating-shelf hardware online. I've built cabinet enclosures before with sliding drawers, sliding doors, euro hinges, etc, so that's not an issue.
Also, i'm always somewhat suprised when people cite the "portability" of these systems. Why would this be any less portable than a DIY system? You still have to unhinge / unscrew / decouple all of the hardware at the end of the day and take it with you somewhere. All relative I suppose...
- Granted, if your'e looking to do something more stylish with unique materials you'll have to go through a supplier.d_rek

On the price issue, I have just bought a new apartment and the cost for a carpenter to build MDF selves was about 80% of the price of Vistoe. It wouldnt of looked as cool or been as half as practical.
The other side as people have mentioned you can keep adding to it and you can take it with you when you move
