Do hipsters even understand the 80s?

If someone is hung up on the 60s and 70s you'd assume that they're into "spirituality, peace, pot and pacifism." These are not necessarily bad things in my opinion.

But if someone is hung up on the 80s, for what reasons are they? Expressionism? Pop Art? These things are only aesthetic.

It's not that complicated. People will always feel nostalgia for the decade they grew up in

All of these hipsters are too young to remember the 80's. I was born in 1984. My earliest memory is probably from '89 or '90.CanHasQBN3/5
'90. Their nostalgia should be from the 1990's.CanHasQBN4/5

I think 80's were the beginning of our current tech world.. with Apple II's, Commadore 64's, Walkmen, early cell phones, MTV, all that music made with Yamaha DX7's and Roland 808's....

Qoob - even if you were born in 1980, you didn't "experience" the 80s. The only nostalgia you could even grasp would have been during the Seattle years which has nothing to do with today's hipster.

If you are still dressing like a hipster and you're 32 years then you're not hip... you're trying to hard.

Vax, see I don't think it's that flippant.

When people tap into "nostalgia" I would only assume to do it for some kind of virtuous reason, or some kind of yearning for a more innocent time, or at least the perception of something that was "better than now."

I'm just not sure what is so hip about being a hipsters? What makes it work?

Are they full-on anti establishment, anti American culture... if it is, in a way that is punk, and that's kinda cool in itself.

Detritus thinks the 60s have nothing to do with a peace movement.

Next thing he's going to say is that the Holocaust wasn't real.

    Troll a different thread, now!

ukit2 - you're right, I guess I was assuming that hipsters and 80s are buddies because every piece of fashion has some kind of 80s flair to it, and I do mean flair.

Not to mention the music. I think you'd have to be culturally color blind not to see the connection between 80s and today's hipster
