Hey guys,
So I'm working on branding a relief organization that takes place in Africa. My ECD is demanding something that looks hand-rendered and, let's face it, falls into all the stereotypes. (a jagged, hand-rendered hand icon) :-( I weep for my liberal-arts education.
SO... I'm out to prove we can make an elegant solution to this without falling into the "indigenous" and "primitive" (his words) look and feel.
Do you all have any examples that pull this off?
I'm going to show (RED) - but are there any others? Thanks in advance!

Well, there's always Papyrus...Avoid that and you're a leg up.

Just get over it and use Neuland already!

I worked with a logo a few years back, maybe 6 or so that was pretty nice. I can't find it anywhere online as I forget the entire name of the company, but they built earth homes and structures. The name of the business started with the word Earthen so to create his logo, we took a piece of white washed wood and pressed it to his right hand covered in his earthen building material mixture on his thumb and forefinger as he held his hand in the shape of a backward e. This took a few tries but what they ended up with was perfect for them as it looked like mud, it looked like a hand, & it looked like an e. Needless to say this was a raster logo that never was illustrated though.

Ignoring everything else about the site and design, the icon they've got here is quite elegant without falling into that sterilised, Disneyfied tribal trap...
