Hi everyone. So I just bought my first Mac after 15+ years in the Windows world. It's exciting, but it's also making me feel like an idiot at times.
I'm going to use this thread to post my mac-related questions in hopes that maybe the answers that you generously provide will help others in the future. (Warning... some of them may be really dumb.)
So here goes my first question...
What's the best way to share an external hard drive between a mac and a PC?
I store all of my work on an external HD so I can easily take it with me between computers, and when I plugged it into my Mac not only was it terribly slow to read, but I couldn't write any freakin' data to it!
After some research I figured out it's because the hard drive is set up as a NTFS, which is a Windows-only format.
It appears that I need to reformat that drive as a FAT32 partition, which is fully recognized by both Macs and PCs. I'm aware of the 4GB-per-file limit, but that's not a concern.
My question is... is a FAT32 the best way to go? Is it going to be slow to read on a Mac like the NTFS is right now? Is there a better option that I'm missing?
Thanks you guys!
