Has anyone in the UK seen any of the shows yet? I'm really hoping they decide to come to the states, but I'm starting to see some videos of their performances, and good god, Ian's voice is awful live.
I never got to see him with the Stone Roses, but I did see him solo and I don't remember it being this bad.

I can only imagine how hard it was to record their albums. The rest of the band sounds tight!

    wow that's bad
but my girl went and said it was amazing, in fact everyone i know said that, but i guess they would because for most of us it was the first time we'd ever seen the band together live.

so gutted i didn't go - had tickets as well!!!!

A lot of bands from that era couldn't really sing. Sometimes its part of the charm but in that clip he doesn't come off too well:)

Everyone was too fucked to realise how bad his vocals were live the first time around. All my mates who went on Friday and Saturday said it was a great night - no one commented on his vocals. They were all clearly mashed...

I was there on Friday and I managed to get a wrist band to get in the front pen (the area fenced off that included about the first 3rd of the audience). I've been going to see gigs for around 17 years now and I thought it was amazing. True, his voice was, to put it generously, patchy, but the rest of the band were incredible and the atmosphere was one of the best I've been in.

Reni is simply one of the greatest drummers I've ever seen. Drumming you could listen to without the rest of the band. Mani is a great bass player, a proper engine room musician and John Squire is ad always was an amazing guitarist - he's still the coolest guy in the band, it all looks so effortless to him.

What I'll say about Ian Brown and this gig is that the crowd was so loud he became one of 75,000 voice singing rather than one voice ruining the show. If you were going to this gig you weren't going to hear him hit some high notes, you were going for the event.

The event was better than I thought it would be (and I had pretty high hopes too)

    • Most accurate review I've read, I was there too - bit of a lull mid-set but an experience not to be missed.rybration1/2

Saw them in Glasgow in 1990 - and the vocals were pish back then.

    He's got worse though.

Happy to pay £55 to hear Ian Brown sing both good & bad, beats paying a lot more to hear somebody mime or pay any money at all to see some old skank like Madonna. Heaton Park gigs were historic no matter what the vocals were like.

    • historic? well, they happened in the past so i guess you're right.ebertzjaw1/3
it's not 'spike island' or glasgow green (which i was at na na na!) though...ebertzjaw2/3

I refused myself to go to the Amsterdam concert. I saw the Roses and Ian solo too before. The voice is most of the times fucked.
But who cares? I have the albums home...
