Doesn't that depend on your goals?

neither pageviews nor unique pageviews are really any indication of 'performance'.
What analytics package do you use?
If you are attempting to compare two pages in terms of content, layout, colors, CTAs... to see which is more effective you're much better off doing a proper a/b test instead of trying to figure it out from analytics data

mmm. I'm a total noob when it comes to this so I'll have to investigate further. I'm just confused when I see one page get, say, 1000 pageviews and 100 unique page views VS a page that gets 600 pageviews and 500 unique pageviews.

Seems normal that there are pages people view multiple times on a site. It's hard to draw any real conclusion without knowing the context.

all very good points. But is it safe to say that more people viewed the page that has more unique views?

just do total views and call it a day. ....next question.
- ok, but did the get page that got more uniques get more overall viewers? that's what I'm wondering.futuremongolian

What's so confusing about it?
Each unique view is a different user. So yea, page with the most unique views was viewed by the most people.

Thanks.
I was just confused by the terms vague definition, wondering that perhaps if someone visited a week later they would again be counted as a unique.

According to this Google uses cookies to track unique users, which expire six months after they last visited your site.
