I am looking for some tips with FCP.

I have a long sequence (1 hour widdled down from 9) in FCP X.

It was shot on a 7D and I converted the frame rate from 60FPS to 30FPS but I've recently been informed 24FPS would look a lot better.

Can I do that without starting over the editing process?

(On a sidenote I am looking to download some high res loops of VHS grain - if that exists - for overlays)

24 will only look better if paired with the approps shut speed

    • meaning the video should have been shot at 24 fps. No use converting it now.CyBrainX2/2

I have 9 hours of footage and I've gone through 2/3 of it and chosen the best hour basically.

I am wondering if I can convert those clips to 30FPS or if I really do have to start over...

If you still have FC7 use cinetools to convert 60->24 but remember what zoo zoo said....

I used Cinetools to convert from 60-30. And have been editing with the 30FPS clips.

I am wondering if I can get those down and keep them in the timeline?

isn't FCP X like the new iMovie?

    • It's like the thing that pushes people to Premiere from what I've heard.

60 - 30 = 50% of the speed.... what exactly are you wanting to do by making them 24 fps?...

You can change the clips no problem but they will be longer on the timeline. So if it is sunk to music after one second or so it will drift out. you will need to slip all your edits.

Actually that is fine - I just heard 24 has a slightly better look than 30?

    Is this the truth?

    • depends on your shutter speed, did you shoot at 1/50?zarkonite

    what?!??

24P looks different, sometimes worse than 30p. Depends on what you're shooting and what look you're aiming for....

24p is more "film-like" but also is mercilessly harsh on subject movement or camera movement, you've got to move the camera slower and smoother or you get this weird "Jitter" effect. That's why lots of "action movies" are full of cuts and tight editing but actually not much drastic camera movement or subject movement... watch carefully and you will see....

30p is slightly more forgiving of motion, not much, 60P is what sports are often shot in... and 30P has slightly more of a "video" look but I really don't think you should "redo your project" ....

shutter speed also has an influence... but you've got to just actually try things and watch stuff really carefully, not just read about it...
