I don't get why your are looking at one word.. Isn't the real question whether to use US or International English?
We went with US English for an online magazine because our biggest single country was US (but then we also used a lot of industry specific terms and allowed local writers to use their own country-specific slang). And finally we decided that since we were based in the UK, we should make use of the appeal of local character even for a world market, and switch back to UK English.
Complicated... really depends on your project.

If you are going to use colour, make sure you use same for rest of your text. As long as you are consistent.
