My first thread on QBN.
Not sure how many London based freelance designers working in digital there are on here but I have a few questions.
How is the freelance market at the moment? Specifically in digital... websites, microsites, apps, UI/UX, not too much media if it can be helped.
What recruitment agencies have been good to work with? (If such a thing exists).
What kind of day rates can you command? I'm coming from a CD position at an agency, but happy to do AD / senior design work, and can code a bit - AS2/3 / JS / HTML etc.
Is everyone set up as a ltd company? Do you have any recommendations for accountants?
Um, yeah, I think that’s all for now.
Nice one, thanks.

Lots of work in London.
If you're on Linkedin and have a decent network you'd have to try hard to not be offered something weekly by sharks, erm I mean recruiters.
Set up a ltd co def.
Coming from a CD I think you'd be looking at 350p/d+ (thats contracting/freelance)
- £350 minimum... in fact I wouldn't mention that figurefadein11
- yea I did say PLUSblackspade

1. Go limited, a lot of recruitment agents wont touch you if you are not
2. Get an accountant. Drop me an email.
3. Plenty of work in London.
4. Recruitment agents : Cogs, Nakama, Major Players & Dynamic New Alliances.
5. HMRC do free workshops for new business' and the self employed. Look into that.- Unless you are starting your own company with employees why would you go LTDpillhead

There's plenty of work in London for all kinds of digital, and what Stugoo says (impressive folio btw — do you work in-house at agencies for the project duration?)

Thanks guys.
I like Nakama but will have to be careful approaching them as they have a fairly close relationship with the agency (me, my boss, the studio manager etc). I want my notice to come from me.
haha, ximeraLabs. *Franticly checks profile to see if I’ve accidentally left my real URL in there.
I work full time (salary) at the moment. Am looking to move to contract / freelance in order to free up time to work on some of my own projects. A 3 weeks on, 1 week off kind of deal.
- The agents are pretty straight talking, if you tell them to keep quiet they will listenStugoo
- Maybe, but there is a personal relationship (MD / MD) there that I would be nervous about.plausible
- Im pretty sure on a professional level they would keep it in confidence.Stugoo
- Also, they wont send you work until a week before you finish anywayStugoo
- so.. you can wait i guess, in fact it could work in your favour
Stugoo - not that im selling nakama....Stugoo
- or not...Stugoo

Oh that portfolio remark was aimed at Stugoo :)
I take it from your comment that its still on the down low ;)

Accountant - Here's mine: http://www.djh.co.uk/
I've been through about five and these have been the best by far. Not sure how far they go for servicing clients, they seem to cover most of the Midlands tho.

Regarding the original question, there is LOADS of freelance work everywhere mate. It just depends how good you are at finding it.
