Correction CanHasQBN. I'm from Bermuda. It's not a developing country and has a population that is mostly black but the majority of the designers I've encountered there are white expats. That chalks up to a lot of things and isn't necessarily due to racism but it is what it is.
To add to that though. I was told straight up by an Art Director in Toronto that my race would make it harder for me to get hired. And Toronto is culturally diverse as hell!
- A white friend of mine was headhunted from Toronto to relocate to Bermuda for a design job.i_monk
- There you go lol I went back and passed my resume around once or twice but no diceGlitterati_Duane
- I just rhymed. I should rap instead of design. Then become Kanye and call myself a designer againGlitterati_Duane

Glitterati_Duane, funny how folks think Toronto is more "advanced", I'm curious to know more. Saddens me...

a little bit ago. fantastic event!James Baldwin writes on the significance of Black Artists coming together in his Uncollected Stories publication. If you're ever in a BN or indie bookstore, check it out.
Anyway... any contributions here welcome. I'm trying to compile a list.

Designers in a way... not so much Graphic Designers. Definitely an ode to a certain aesthetic. + <3 Ft. Greene.

- why would you single yourself out as a "person of color" in the first place? isn't that counter-productive?monospaced
- You're a designer.
I'm a designer.
Why differentiate with skin?monospaced - Actually it's not Mono. Folks of color are few and far btwn in the field. It's good to know who's out there .ohhhhhsnap
- Racist against who?ohhhhhsnap
- not 'against' anyone, it's just racist because you're bringing race into a situation where it wasn't relevant or isn't a problemmonospaced
- a problem. basically, you're focusing on race for unknown reasons. why flock to each other? that's count-productivemonospaced
- -productive. It's 2012, 'people of color' don't need group solidarity anymore, not in design. fuckin' amonospaced
- i wouldn't expect you to understand. and it'll be counter productive to explain it to you.ohhhhhsnap
- "Folks of color are few and far btwn in the field" in EVERY field simply because they're the minority population in..CanHasQBN
- ..developed countries.CanHasQBN
- that's what they want you to believe.ohhhhhsnap
