Good copywriting?
"The aim of thIs visual identIty system is to make the AP masterbrand strategy come to lIfe in all vIsual touch points."
How many times have we seen the same canned message in brand guidelines somewhere?
Fuck me. This "identity" is crap.

I don't get the 'watermark' lines. What are they meant to represent. The look ridiculous on a plain background, which is where they seem to be used most.

Their brand manual as well as example applications are actually pretty well done, considering their new logo is truely uninspiring.

i like 81 too but for the small thumbnails you gotta go 42

Sad to say that 1981 was the high watermark in their logo history.

you know as well as I do that the 42 vers. would have been a fine update.

Uninspired? Yes. But I can see it being executed well. I often see the AP logo receding into the background, which I also see this mark doing well.

uninspired and pedestrian.

my boss showed me this before i saw the full rebrand, because he had AP on his twitter feed. the new logo is much better for icons, and i just said "does it tweet" is the new "does it fax" which this logo seems to lean toward. either way the older one was much better.
