I ended up ordering the non-E. The E seems more trouble than it's worth (for the extra sharpness) when 36mp is so big that some sharpness will be lost in the down-res anyway.
Makes sense for some people I suppose. I'm curious if anyone ordered the E and, if so, why? I undertand the moire is easy to remove in stills, but what about video?
(This is not a Nikon vs Canon thread, take that shit to the pixel-peeper boards)

Buy a canon, use a mac, and stop being such a hater

Hater? Who said anything about Canon? I own a 5D and 3 macs. What are you talking about? Get a clue.
- he's just shitting some of the language from current threads on to your thread, haha.HijoDMaite
- i would say that is a pretty standard response to any thread.. i think it would work with dubstepautoflavour

I think autoflav is using sarcasm... but if he's not let's round up a posse and teach him some manners the old fashioned way.

I'll wait till I see it.....
I've worked as a digital tech on shoots using non-AA filter cameras, such as various medium format backs, and the Kodak 14N.... those cameras gave great skin tones, I'd be curious to see if the D800E does the same....
For a "you control everything" shoot, the D800E might be great, but for things like weddings, corporate events, etc where you do NOT control things like curtains from hell behind people, hotel carpets designed by somebody on LSD, and herringbone suits, it might result in a photoshop marathon on the typical 1500 picture editing gig...

That was exactly my fear, but I still almost ordered the E. So how do people solve that problem in video? Does this make the E pretty much useless to pro video shooters? I do very little video myself.
- I almost ordered the E because I love aggressive cropping.antagonista

you probably aren't going to see the difference between the D800 and the D800E. Srsly. That stuff's for pixelpeepers anyway.

Seriously, the 36 megapixel workflow might be insane... but it does help for one situation, where you're shooting a wedding or corporate event and "that guy" asks you "how many megapixels is that thing?"
- Very good point!antagonista
- "That guy" will soon be buying his own D800 and a D3s or D4 will look bad to potential customers.nb
- asking to see "that guy's" photos always ends the discussion rapidly....vaxorcist
