So I have been working on a new Wordpress site for my client and we are ready to go live with the site.
Currently we have the new website design located in a subfolder of the server, and I'm wondering if you guys now of an easy way to pull the site from the subfolder to the live domain?
I tried simply uploading the Subfolder Wordpress files to the main directory, but that was a big fail and I lost/screwed up most of the Wordpress database.
So some advice would be good :)

backupbuddy is the best plug in for this, its an investment. you can also schedule backups in case your hosting hoses your site for some reason.

Follow the steps on dbloc's link. Also I use the Velvet Blues Update URL plugin to update all instances of the old URL that are used for images or links within the body content of the site.

And +1 for BackupBuddy. I use that plugin on all of my sites. Definitely worth the paid price for the peace of mind that it brings.

I go manual, making a copy of the database for back up.
Then in the database find all instances of the "domain.com/folder" finding and replacing with the doman that is to be the location
Then upload this new database to the server from local (if dev'd on local)
Then move the files to the new location
*never had an issue (knocks on wood)
