for those on hourly, do you charge more on the weekend?

Depends on if you think you think your client will swallow it.
I only charge rush rates for quick turnaround gigs. For weekends normal rates apply. weekend = weekdays. It's all the same. Especially to most Clients.
- < this. If they're decent then they don't expect weekend work. Bit of a catch-22.MrT

It's weekend work because it's a rush and normally never happens. I guess that's reason enough to not worry about extra rates.

No, we either can get a project done or we can't. I don't quote higher rates for faster turn arounds (with a few extreme situations that required no sleep at all for a few people).
I think you come off as a little cheap if you charge more for different times of the week.

when i was at an agency, paid hourly, and i went over 40 hrs, by law i was on time and a half- someone had to eat that for weekend work, and if it wasn't beneficial to the boss or the client to pay extra it usually was downgraded from a rush job.

I'm with you, bjladams. I used to work weekends all the time. Now that my son is getting older and my time with him more limited, my weekends are nearly off-limits to work. I can be available, but at a premium that I'm upfront with my clients about. Weekend rates start at $5k. My clients understand, especially the ones that are parents.

IF you're willing to work on the weekends, you should totally charge a different rate.
Most working people get weekends off, so if I'm having to work instead of relaxe, I'm billing higher rates.
- i usually do double-time, but most things can be avoided by saying, "I don't work on weekends."doesnotexist

I don't work on weekends, at least not anymore. I used to, but recently stopped for the same reasons stated by bjladams.

I've said this here before, and I'll say it again: there's no such thing as a graphic design emergency. It's not like we're saving lives or anything.
