TNT for type. (Tight not touch). From an instructor at SVA, Skip Sorveno (Mia Sorveno's cousin). His rule for kerning.

else they trust handle it was worth the cost. It all comes down to seeking quality clients. I know, easier said then done sometimes. I always use my gut and you can tell often by what is said in the first meeting.

You'll never succeed with a strong regional accent - not said to me, but to a mate at college who has proved otherwise... http://www.robclarke.com

"Being nervous is a waste of time"...
I still get anxious and nervous when ramping up for a comp, before a pitch or during a presentation. Think it's just a part of the process that if I didn't get nervous otherwise, would prolly just produce crap work at a comfy gig. That nervous competition for success is still there :)

What about some of the design basics: symmetry is bad, never more than 2 typefaces per project etc...

Starter: it's ok to do work for cool clients for free/very little money.
I'm going to go ahead and disagree with that one...
It's because of free/ little money 'cool clients' that I was able to direct what area of graphic design I'm working at today. Of course, they (clients) don't get to decide when its free or not, that's up to you (designer) and after evaluating what are the benefits of doing that.
