It's ok, too many Americans getting drunk. Panama is better.

quepos is one of my favorite spots there. have not been in a few years, but as far as i know, it's still about a 8hr drive thru the hills to get there, keeping most tourists away.

Costa Rica is awesome, have been twice. Yes, touristas everywhere, but you can get around that. Make friends with a local and learn some Spanish, it's easy.

lots of frogs, snakes, scorpions, spiders larger than your hands, bats, tropical birds.. rainy seasons.. all things that make me never want to see its beauty..
my bro emailed me and said he would get back to me later with a list of sorts for you..
he runs a bar in a bed and breakfast spot in a hidden cove in santa teresa..
he did say there is a 6-8 drive from main airport.. and as stated above.. most tourists miss out because of that..

ElD - have a look at Dominical - nice, chill Surfy town / village. Stayed there for a few days last year and it was great.

Yeah we're gonna need more info on what you want to do, how much you want to spend, when you are going, etc. Get a car if you can and go to and explore different areas is my advice. There is a hell of a lot to do and see.

Toured Costa Rica years ago. Spent a lot of time in Tortuguero, more specifically in the National Park. If you're into that sort of thing, it's pretty amazing.
Got to see these guys crawling all over the beach. Was fucking amazing.
Jaco was good fun for a few nights of partying. It's about an hour from San Jose.

So far the plan is to rent a car and spend 5 days exploring Monteverde and Arenal. From there we are going down to the Nicoya peninsula to spend a week relaxing on the beaches in Malpais and Santa Teresa.

Monteverde has some zip lines that are above some great virgin rainforests that are pretty cool. Make sure you get a 4x4. We got lost on the way to Monteverde and ended up in the middle of nowhere 8,000 feet up, needed to traverse some hairy rivers so real glad we got the 4x4.

my brother responded with this..
"Arenal is sweet...I live on mal pais/Santa Teresa so I think here is best...if they surf here is best"
also
"Another place they may want to check for a couple of days is Manuel Antonio, and monteverde...tell them there is no need to go tamarindo or jaco"
if you want any specific question ask me here so i can send it to him.. i myself have never been there and i have no intention of going either.. im not a beach person. give me a big city any day..
