So, I am needing a new phone (AT&T network) and thought I'd reach out to you guys for opinions.
Reliability and processing power / application support are priorities, but unlike most I am not looking for a true smartphone. Why? Because I don't plan to use data on my phone and AT&T will make me pay for a data plan with a smartphone.
I do, however, send and receive a lot of texts, so strong texting capability is desirable. I generally prefer a full keyboard for texting and note taking, but am open to decent alternatives (eg Android's "swipe" feature).
Any thoughts?

well, if you send allot of txts then either a blackberry or iphone would be a good choice depending on how many of your contacts use either phone...

they have blackberry messenger and imessenger which is free message service between those who use either service.
- Why would this matter?ArmandoEstrada

Question... are you staying with AT&T for any specific reason?
Like, is it the only network that works in your house?I had AT&T, then moved... and.... argh....Oddly enough, AT&T was the only network that DIDN'T work in my old house, so I switched.... and AT&T seemed dedicated to ruining my life when I told them why.... assholes deserve to die painfully....
AT&T costs $$$$, and if you want unlimited data, you can get it from Virgin Mobile/Sprint or T-Mobil for less than you think.... and an android phone on those networks doesn't cost that much...
I've got an Android phone on Virgin Mobile (runs on Sprint) for $44 / month, unlimited data, 1200 minutes, unlimited text, no AT&T hassles....

honestly if you're not getting a smart phone there is no reason to have a contract. They are a fucking rip off compared to a lot of the prepaid plans out now (not prepaid from the big companies, but companies like net10).
With my current usage (~100 minutes + ~300-500 texts a month) I currently only pay on average $15 a month with my net10 phone. Compare that with my old verizon plan in which I was spending upwards of $60 a month. Also, It's nice to not be on a contract.
