Keeping in mind that you are visiting with your parents ans staying in Chinatown...
Dumbo-
If you do want to visit Zakka in Dumbo, which I wouldn't say is a "must-do," then you might as well walk the Brooklyn Bridge across, grab a pizza at Girmaldi's , and then visit Zakka. If you plan it right, you can then catch the new ferry up to 34th Street and see the Empire State Building, then Times Sq, and Central Park all in one shot.Having a ShakeShack burger in Madison Sq. Park is nice. It's not going to knock-your-socks-off, but it is good and they usually have a nice art piece in the park. Also it's right across from Pentagram and Doyle Partners to so could set up an interview. The other ShakeShack locations have the same burgers minus the outdoor setting. The places E mentioned are better burgers though if you do make it to Williamsburg.
Might be worth stopping by Gray's Papaya for a Recession Special on 6th ave in W.Village.
If your mom likes Chocolate, there are some great places near Chinatown in Soho. Mariebelle, Vosges & Kee's are all great.

there's a ton of places to choose from within walking distance.
