have ever paid for advertising?
did you get a decent return on your investment? was it a substantial investment?
i'm considering this path, for a mobile project i have, but a recent article about somone's experience with admob is making me have second thoughts:

Google AdWords works, but you need to understand how to leverage it.

You'll need to invest enough to matter, at least a few grand depending on your target demo and competitive landscape.
For example, if you're an ambulance chasing lawyer trying to get asbestos claims, you'll need to spend crazy amount of money.
