cool baby gifts

i have to buy a gift for someone's baby, but i don't want to get the usual primary-colored, plastic toy crap.
does anybody know of a store or website that sells some unique baby stuff? maybe something with some good design qualities to it? it doesn't necessarily have to be a toy... it could something the parents could use FOR the baby... like a rocking chair or something.
Help me. For the love of god. HELP MEEE.

for our first kid, the wife requested all sorts of stuff- trendy stuff... most of it ended up broken within a short time, while the cheap stuff has lasted...
for the second kid, she asked for nothing but dippers- we went over a year without buying a single one. best gift ever. although, it sounds lame, those things are expensive.

Just got these for our little one, they are great. Very easy to slip on over other shoes etc. which is a big deal as getting boots on a baby is not easy.
