The level of spam lately

I think we can all agree that this place has been badly effected by spam over the past few months, you come on here sometimes and practically the whole of Public voice is filled with the same shite. Chinese knock off footwear, Kat_uk and her celebrity bullshit, you all know the stuff.
Now I don't know why this is getting worse lately, are there no moderators anymore? There certainly used to be - I remember getting getting a flag via email for calling someone a spaz or something equally throw away back in the Newstoday era, so there have been times when this place has been monitored.
Anyway, this isn't random venting, I have a suggestion to help the spam problems. It's taken from another forum I used to use a few years ago, but it does require a certain level of moderation - but I don't think as much as moderating a whole site.
On that forum there was a newbie level of registration which acted as a probation to being a fully fledged member. When a new user registered they could see the whole site but can not post on the main boards. Instead they had a newbie only section where they could post and where it would be easy to quickly spot spammers and time wasters. They were in there until the moderators thought they would be a good addition to the forum - or at least a real person who wants to be on here.
This maybe over complicating the problem, but I am so bored with logging in and having to sift through the Public Voice and Choice to find actual threads of interest I just thought I'd throw it out there.

I barely come around here anymore either.
I actually have been around here since late '02, just had my old login disappear around '08 or so for whatever reason.
Used to be an amazing source of info and inspiration. I remember Transfatty posting interesting shit up all the time. I remember the pleasant little "Newstoday" jingle as an everyday thing along with my morning coffee...
Now it's mostly spam and older guys crapping on stuff.

I'm also unhappy with the level of spam recently. Been here since '04. Never seen it so bad. I like Wolfboy's proposal of a probationary newbie period.

I'm just wondering if someone knows moderators of QBN and If they really want to improve QBN. Did they replying someone?
Prophetone had sympathetically offered his help "for a better tomorrow", but nothing happened. I really don't understand why QBN don't want our help. And Utopian should be a President for all spam killer he did.- You could always send suggestions to qbn@qbn.com ... I suppose _someone_ must still check email.Continuity

A few years ago I contacted QBN asking about getting further involved. I was just excited about the QBN community, etc. Thought it would be cool. I got a "thanks, but no thanks."
- Little too proactive if you ask me. You dont contact some random site asking if they need help.CygnusZero4

I think they should limit new users with a probation period and create temporary periods of time with no new sign ups at all. During these periods anybody posting spam would be dealt with regularly allowing for the active spam accounts to be weeded out through the Spam Thread. Then when sign ups open again they'd be limited until proven they are legit. Non of the suggestions would stop spam but it would definitely stifle it, you would have to go through a lot of bs to just post a spam link that would inevitably be taken down anyway.

Easy solution: no more new members at all. We are this place. Fuck anyone else who wants in.
- no likeymonospaced
- that's what happened to yh.com, and now there's yh.net...nato

QBN should go underground, hide on dark net servers completely anonymous and encrypted

I'm with jon_d. Wouldn't be surprised if it was a mod. QBN is a PR5 site.
- what is "PR5" ?e-pill
- i looked it up.. what are other pr5 sites?e-pill
- or what other pr5 sites are similar to qbn?e-pill
- re: PR5 site status
But for how long?detritus - PR5 is kind of a big deal for link building. FoxNews.com, CNN.com, etc. all waver between 5 and 6.dMullins
- QBN is a PR5, but CNN is currently a 9 and Fox News an 8.ETM
- And I always thought PR6+ is what is really worth targeting.ETM
